Re: Timmy Talk

ok, but that is a rather gratuitous reply, you must admit.
What do you disagree with there?

Ok, the word "leaning" implies that one leans TOWARD the existence of this (so far) unknowable god, rather than "away from" believing in same.

So, WHY do you believe this god is likely (or plausible) rather than unlikely (or near-impossible?)

Not exactly, or at least I am not expressing it adequately. I am first an agnostic: I don't know. Secondarily, and this applies if there is a God, I'm "leaning" to deism: God appears to have little or (more likely) no interaction with his creation. IMO, he never talks to people and never has. Doesn't do things (miracles or otherwise) for a select few people (or any number or people, large or small).

Re: Timmy Talk

Marcbee, I am just curious, what happened with your beliefs about God between 1999 and 2011?

1999-2011: More or less just went slowly, carefully, praying and thinking things through before I did anything permanently irretractable. Prayed all the time, "Jesus I believe, help thou my unbelief." I also experimented going to other (less literalistic believing) churches, and decided that maybe I could still be a christian in a different kind of (less literalistic-leaning) church. But eventually decided that the bible should not be spun to fit one's personal preferences, but that it meant (more or less!) what it said--that is, if carefully and honestly interpreted, for which skill I also went to a bible college for two years in early 90s. In the end, the so-called word of god appeared thoroughly discredited in many areas, (unless I were to lobotomize myself) so therefore I could not longer believe. Realized I was almost fully atheist around 2011. (I still hope there's a god, but it won't be the Yahweh thing.) My biggest regret now is having been such a gullible, credulous, and vulnerable 18 year old, when I was baptized in Jesus name, and that I didn't begin to really think for myself (IOW, too faith-filled) for the next 21 years (until approx. 1999.)

Thanks for asking. I'm sure this is fodder for some to offer their presumptuous, faith-preserving, fake "insights" about me or others who claim that "The Faith" is simply not true.

Re: Timmy Talk

yikes, the contortions we go through just to justify ourselves, what? I mean, congrats on dumping the religion and all, but contemplating Scripture should have led you there sooner rather than later anyway. Oh, you were led by men then, too-my bad. Why does this read as though your consciousness has been contracted, rather than expanded, I wonder?

And please take this as intended-a presumptuous, faith-preserving, fake insight
Just lobbing grenades here. Peace

Re: Timmy Talk

Timmy I have a similar question to you out of curiosity. Did you immediately become agnostic when you were in the AoG or did you go through some years to become an agnostic?
