Help with Arabic

Hey, All

Anyone know Arabic, or know someone who does who can help?

I took a semester in college back in '06, but I barely remember any of it.

While studying what it means to be a seer according to 2 Kings 17:13, one of the lexicons, Brown-Driver-Briggs, when tracing the root word, gives a couple of what seem to be Arabic cognates, then claims to translate them.

Unfortunately, the site only has the Arabic text as a pic, not a font, so I cannot simply copy and paste into a translator. From biblehub:

to perceive with the inner-vision:

astrologer/astronomer:

I want to confirm these translations for a project I am working on, and I also want to be able to type these words in Word, and not just copy and paste the pics.

If there is anyone who can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Help with Arabic

Could you try an English to Arabic reverse translation to verify the translation?

I have a sister who is an Israeli I'll ask her to translate in English the scripture verse 2 Kings 17:13

Ok I just asked her, and she told me that it means "one who sees"

Re: Help with Arabic

Yes, that would of saved me a phone call.

I called up the brother to ask his wife a question. They were standing in line in Wal Mart. I asked her the question and to read 2 Kings 17:13 in Arabic. To tell me to interpret the verse in English. There is no astronomer in the verse.

Re: Help with Arabic

I appreciate everyone's suggestions and attempts to help, but perhaps I didn't make what it is I am after sufficiently explicit.

If you go to the following link:

https://biblehub.com/hebrew/2372.htm

And scroll down to the Brown-Driver-Briggs entry, you will see that two different Arabic words are offered as cognates to the Hebrew chazzah. I am trying to make certain that the translation of those two cognates offered by the BDB is accurate.

See the entry and note the large and emboldened text:

Quote:
חָזָה S 2372 TWOT 633 GK 2600 vb. (almost wholly poet.) see, behold ( Aramaic ܚܙܳܐ ( ḥzo ), חֲזָא , see, perceive with the eyes; Palm. Ethp. אתחזי = ἔδοξεν Reckendorf ZM G, 1888, 397 ; Arabic حَزَى ( ḥazā ), perceive with the inner vision , only; حَازٍ ( ḥāzin ) astronomer, astrologer ) — Qal Pf. ח׳ ψ 58:11 + 6 times; חָזִיתָ Pr 22:29 ; 29:30 ; חָזִית Is 57: 8; חָזִיתִי Jb 15:1 7; חֲזִיתִךָ ψ 63:3 ; ָ˜חזוּ Jb 24:1 + 5 times; חֲזִיתֶם Jb 27:12 Ez 13: 7, 8 ; Impf. יֶחֱזֶה Nu 24:4 + 2 times; 3 fs. וְתַ˜חַז Mi 4:1 1; 2 ms. תֶּחֱזֶה Ex 18:2 1; 1 s. אֶחֱזֶה ψ 17:15 + 4 times;
אָ˜חַז Jb 23: 9; pl. יֶחֱזוּ Is 26:11 + 4 times; יֶחֱזָי˜וּן Is 26:1 1;
The two terms highlighted above are what I am looking to have translated. BDB says the first means to "perceive with the inner vision", the second, an "astronomer, astrologer".

I want to know if this is accurate.

A Muslim friend from college who has studied Arabic claimed one of the words means "sad". Online translators have given me all sorts of possibilities, none of them helpful. I want to believe the BDB has it right, but for the project I am working on, I want to be sure.

So, if anyone can read and translate the two Arabic words from BDB above, that would be very helpful and appreciated.

The word for astrologer is nowhere in the verse. The word in the verse means "one who sees."

Thank you, Brother.

I see that, in 2 Kings 17:13, translated into Arabic, the two words I am seeking confirmation about, are not there.

But what of the words themselves, apart from the verse?

Can you get a translation of:

حَزَى (ḥazā)

حَازٍ (ḥāzin)

Haza: predict, assume, appreciate or emphasize something.
Hazin: to take, posses, to own.
