Attempted coup in Turkey

Part of the Turkish army is attempting a coup in Turkey. Followers of a Muslim cleric, possibly attempting this coup:

http://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-europe-36811357

"President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hit out at what he called the "parallel structure" in his interview on CNN Turk - it's believed to be shorthand for the followers of Fethullah Gulen, a US-based Muslim cleric who Mr Erdgoan has accused in the past of leading coup attempts."

Re: Attempted coup in Turkey

I don't believe Erdogan.

"""In a statement, Gulen said he condemned, 'in the strongest terms, the attempted military coup in Turkey.'

He said: 'Government should be won through a process of free and fair elections, not force," he said. "I pray to God for Turkey, for Turkish citizens, and for all those currently in Turkey that this situation is resolved peacefully and quickly.'

Gulen sharply rejected any responsibility: 'As someone who suffered under multiple military coups during the past five decades, it is especially insulting to be accused of having any link to such an attempt. I categorically deny such accusations.'"""

I agree with many posts and tweets I've read which suggest this was a staged coup to further allow Erdogan to seize more control and clamp down more on rights in Turkey. Erdogan called the coup a gift from God. He's arrested thousands of Judges and military soldiers, banned the press and imposed even more restrictions.

Understand, despite what obama and Kerry claim, Erdogan is not a good man. He is systematically turning Turkey into an islamic state, away from secular democracy.

It's unfortunate the coup failed.

Re: Attempted coup in Turkey

Once again, the obama administration is on the wrong side, as with Egypt and Libya. Soon Turkey will be a fully islamic state.

This administration has been truly awful with foreign policy. One of the worst in my lifetime.

"""Gulen challenges Erdogan to let an independent international committee investigate #TurkeyCoup.

Erdogan and the US admin won't allow it.

Thanks ND for providing the links and your thoughts.

It seems that any Islamic country that tries to establish democracy eventually fails, and they slide back into dictatorship.
