I remember when...

At the risk of hearing CC1 say that I am older than dirt...

I remember when my momma was the director of the Jr. Choir...every Friday night, regardless of weather, illness, or crying child, she was there.

I remember when McDonalds first opened here and daddy would stop on Friday nights before mom's choir rehearsal.

The hamburgers were 15 cents...hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries, Coke, and shakes...that was all they sold back then.

I remember when we would sing the Spirit would move through the church. Mom taught us songs that stirred the heart of the listener and us as well...though we didn't realize it at the time.

I remember when our house was filled with the sound of The Blackwood Brothers and Statesmen, as well as Doris Akers and The Sky Pilot Choir and Roberta Martin.

All of this gave me an appreciation for music that has enriched me in ways I cannot begin to describe...

Re: I remember when...

I remember when we had revivals which lasted a minimum of two weeks, with Monday night being the only off night.

I remember when Bro. & Sis. Cooley preached one revival after another...she was a tall woman and played the stand-up bass.

They divorced many, many years ago and she backslid...tragic.

I remember when Bro. & Sis. McCarty preached a revival while she was fighting cancer.

I remember when Bro. Chuck and Sis. Laurie Colgrove preached one of their first, if not their first revival at our church.

I remember when Bro. & Sis. Denny preached revivals for us...they sang and preached...and Terry was so cute!!

I remember Bro. MM Hudson and Bro. AF Miller preaching from huge color charts...though I was young, I would sit and listen so intently.

These memories are rich and I have no doubts that the Word I received left a mark on my life that cannot be measured in this earthly economy.

How about you?!

Do you have any memories which made an impact on your life?!

Did they in any way prepare you or influence you in service/ministry?!

You must be old enough to be my Grandmother and I'm really old myself!

They preached Illinois youth camp when I was a little girl. I think Tammy Denny (?) was about 5. And yes, those boys were cute! I have an album of theirs somewhere. They sang "Come Spring" and it would make me cry every time!

I remember my father buying a new lawnmower for me to make extra money mowing yards in the neighborhood. I could fill up a 2 gallon gas can for 50 cents!

Re: I remember when...

My favorite evangelist when I was a teenager was a lady named Lodema Spurlock. I don't know whatever happened to her. She was a tall, lanky, single gal who could preach up a storm, but she was hilarious. We all loved her!

I remember Judy Doughty used to preach for us when I was a real little girl, before she was a Doughty (can't remember her maiden name). She used to take me and my sister to the DQ for a 10 cent Dilly Bar because our grandpa was the pastor and we would stay at their house in the afternoons while my mom worked.

Also, we had Bro. Arnold, but it wasn't Jeff - it was Enoch Arnold. This one had a speech problem, but he could preach! I remember him singing "You Gotta Move". Ed Lucas used to preach for us when he was still a single young guy and all the girls were swooning over him. Can't remember many more names, but I remember the good times.
