I noticed that a thread's title here mentions the "top runners" in the Presidential bid, but fails to mention Dr. Ron Paul. To insure that no one accuses AFF of not being a balanced forum, I started this thread.
Now, has anyone listened to Ron Paul's message? Can a man like Paul be elected today while running on a platform that includes doing away with income tax, the IRS, the Federal Reserve, and much of the US's foreign intervention? I’ve noticed that he is seldom mentioned by the news services, yet he often comes in first in the straw polls. He says that strong support will win him the electorate votes in the end.
In this recent YAHOO INTERVIEW (scroll to the one that mentions Ron Paul), Paul talks about many of his more 'controversial' positions. These, he says, are his positions because they are in line with the US Constitution.
What do you think? Can Paul make it? What would the US be like if his policies made it to the White House?

the reason nobody is talking about him is because he is toast, he has some good ideas i guess and some bad ones too, dt
He is still taking in financial support and is placing high in the straw polls. That is far from ‘toast.’
As far as your answer; what does "he has some good ideas i guess and some bad ones too" mean? Have you looked at what Paul stands for, or are you just writing him off due to him not being in the mainline news service's headlines? His policies alone make Paul very dangerous to the status quo of our current government system. But is he right?

The media only has McCain and Clinton with Obama as a possiblity.
Time will tell.
So far I like Ron Paul better than most.
I'm not crazy about his foreign policy.

There are those of us who like Ron Paul.
There are those who find him interesting.
There are those who do not like Ron Paul.
And there are the few who will spew continual nonsensical & consistently negative dribble and ruin the whole thread.
It would be nice to discuss these things on an even keel where people who see things differently discuss their varying views but I have given up trying it on this forum when it pertains to Ron Paul.
Hopefully you will have better success but it will be without further comment from me as I have tired long ago to subjecting myself to those who so rabidly hate the idea that I dare find him as the candidate I support.
While I'm a Christian libertarian I can't see Ron Paul having much impact on this race. But he has raised a ton of money and has many supporters. I can see him promoting races in the future on a more local level and continue to preach his message.
This current election is shaping up to demonstrate the need for a third party. If McCain gets the nod many conservatives may look other places. There is no real difference between the two parties anymore.

you can have your discussion, I wont call him crazy...again...
however, I would like to point out that RP did in the last debate bring up the notion of returning America to the Gold Standard. THAT is just plain insane.
Also Straw Polls on the internet dont get anyone a victory. It just means you have more people willing to vote on the internet. thus far, RP has not gotten to 10% in any state that has voted.
There is a reason that Rudy and Thompson have pulled out, they couldnt get the votes..
Now return to the discussion about the great Ron Paul and how he believes in the Constitution..... just remember his view of the constitution is the 1811 view.
