The following quote is from another thread where the topic of personal protection came up. Rather than continue the discussion there, I thought it would be better to start a separate thread on personal protection. Where do you stand on having firearms for personal protection? If you don't believe in owning guns, how far should we as Christians go in protecting our families from physical harm?

You really like to throw that "Prove it" out there don't ya.
Here it is in RED letter.
Matt 5:39-45
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.

1 Thess 5:15
15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

Being hit in the face is not the same as some whacko shooting me, Old Paths. Verse 40 has nothing to do with what we are talking about because it is not talking about a criminal action. It deals with a civil action. Lastly, taking measures to protect one's family
is good and makes perfect sense.
I take it this means you have disconnected the air bags in your car, don't use your seatbelts, keep your windows and doors unlocked at all times, don't have an alarm system in your house, and have disconnected the smoke detectors in your house, correct? These are all things in place to protect your life, but you don't need them because you have the faith it takes, right? God is going to protect you from dying in a car accident, someone breaking into your home and stealing everything you own, and your house will never catch fire and take your life because God is never going to allow anything to ever hurt you? God couldn't stop one of His own disciples from cutting off someone's ear right in His presence, but He's going to step in and stop some whacko intent on killing someone who's a Christian because they have some scriptures to throw at him while being attacked. Yeah, it makes perfect sense.
