Talking with the Papist

I don't know about ya'll but I seem to witness to a lot of papists (catholics). And I am so very tired of them twisting the words of Jesus about the "rock". I mean it doesn't matter if you tell them -- Jesus is the chief cornerstone, Jesus is the eternal rock (IS 26). They always say -- no, no, Jesus was speaking in aramaic. Does anybody else feel me on this one?

No real problem exists over the use of "The Name" in everthing else done in the Church. Why then should there exist great controversy over the use of the "The Name of the Godhead" in water baptism?

  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

It's not personal. Honestly I have found a lot of catholics that find it a pejorative. I'd just rather it not be used just incase

It's hard to teach old dogs new tricks, that includes everyone,no matter what faith.Once lies are written in a persons heart,it's hard to get the lie out.

I concur -- That is why I try to guard what my kids are taught.

Unfortunately, the truth of this statement is in Pentecostal circles also. My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge AND your traditions make the Word of God of no effect.

Many born again, spirit filled believers live in defeat because what has been written on their heart is man's doctrine instead of God's doctrine.

I've always had them tell me that Peter was the 1st pope. And if they are taught he was the 1st pope and that he was to build a church then you have their (twisted) theology on why they think the Catholic church is "the" church. The good Lord has always placed Catholics in my path for some reason...every job I've ever had I seem to get close to someone and they're Catholic. You really have to be a little sneaky in witnessing b/c they are usually dead set against hearing anything that contradicts their faith.

My father-in-law is from Spain. He is a traditional catholic. In Spain, this means that he rarely goes to church and he is a practical agnostic. He always talks against the Catholic chruch. For example, the day that I was getting married to his daughter he told me -- "You know the church preaches against contraceptives, well few people know this but they are also one of the main stock holders in one of the largest condom companies in Europe."

However, he still affirms himself a catholic. One of the reasons is because of what I expressed earlier (1st pope = Peter).

Re: Talking with the Papist

Brazil is a very Catholic country...in many interior cities it is dangerous to be a believer.
