Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir

I have most of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir's music & enjoy them quite a bit.
I am listening to Be Glad now & am amazed at the talent they have.

They apparently started recording this CD in late Sept 01 just after 9/11 and there were both Church members and Choir members in the twin towers that day.
The Choir members came out but some Church members did not.

I did a little bit of research on them and they are a 10,000 member congregation of mostly, but not all, African Americans, but led by a white Pastor & his wife.

That is neat.

I heard that they believe Acts 2:38 but don't believe or teach the same holiness standard as a lot of the UPC.

Does any one else like thier music?

I'v been there. They have a great choir. The atmosphere of
the church is disciplined and together. I liked that.

They don't preach Act238. Their pastor had a background
many years ago in UPC but they do the sinners prayer at
BT.

As great as they are, There are choirs in Brooklyn that can
sing cirlces around BT. They just don't have the money or
exposure.

That is too bad!

You mean Pastor Cymbala was once UPC?

They are well disciplined!

There are better choirs there?

Where are they?

What are they called?

I believe that Cymbala was in Indianapolis and sat under
NA urshan OR his dad did when he was in his youth.

Inner city churches doubt if you've heard the names of them

Re: Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir

I have visited BT on different occasions and enjoyed the service each time! They are probably more reserved than a lot of UPC or black churches, but the worship is great! Each time I have gone I have cried like a baby, because the service reminded me so much of a the camp meeting atmosphere when I was young!

The musicians are good, but not at the level of the musicians at Christ Church in Nashville where I attend. The musicians at Christ Church are mostly studio musicians and a few own their own recording studios!

Re: Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir

I have every CD of BTC! Love the deep worship!

Ron,
Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire is an excellent book by Cymbala. If you haven't read it, it's worth checking out at your local library.

I don't know if he was actually a part of the UPC, but possibly was influenced in some way like TD Jakes.

Beautiful worship music. I listen to them a lot when I pray.

Re: Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir

Cymbala's family ... and the Goss and Chambers families worked briefly together in NYC years ago ... in the 60's I believe.

Cymbala is now with the Global Network of Christian Ministries ...

http://global-ministries.com/churches.asp

under Bishop Jack Dehart, an ex-UPCer ... as is Tommy Tenney and CC1's and Pianoman's church .... Christ Church in TN.
