Judge Orders Woman's Kids Back to Public school

The whole title of the story is: Divorce Judge Orders Religious Woman's Kids Sent Back to Public School

The knee jerk reaction after reading the title is to go "Oh no. More religious liberty being squashed!", except in this case I side 100% (OK, maybe 80-90% since I don't know the WHOLE story) with the judge.

A North Carolina judge presiding over a bitter divorce case has ruled that three home-schooled children must start attending public school — a decision their mother angrily says was based on her religious beliefs.

Wake County Judge Ned Mangum granted Thomas and Venessa Mills joint custody of their children — ages 10, 11 and 12 — and ruled that the children's "best interest" would be served by sending them to public school this fall, according to a temporary custody order.

But Venessa Mills insists her association with the Sound Doctrine Church played a "big factor" in Mangum's ruling, in which he also ordered her to undergo a mental health assessment within 30 days.

"He disregarded the facts and said that even though the children are thriving in home school, they'd do better in public school," Venessa Mills told FOXNews.com. "It's a clear cover-up by the judge. He made a bad ruling about home schooling and he is clearly covering his tracks.".......

For what reasons do you side with the judge?

Because the judge was taking into account the fathers rights to his own kids. And I am sure that the testimony concerning the "Commune"/cult nature of the Sound Doctrine Church influenced him to let the father have more sway.

haven't looked up info on the group, but do you know this group? is that why your wording is so strong about them?

I was only going on the news story and know nothing about them apart from that.

But it is also irrelevant. I have a 13 year old son and if his mother suddenly joined the church of Scientology and told me he was now going to start going to a Scientology-run school, I would ask a judge to step in as well (assuming she didn't do it willingly).
