Do We Ever Deserve It ?

Have you ever been in a praise service where someone says something like this ?
A minister might say raise your hands if you feel you desreve a blessing from The Lord,if you have been living right and have been faithful then you deserve to receive a blessing from The Lord.

I understand that there are things in the word that if one does they will be blessed, and I understand the principle of sowing and reaping.

However God honors His word and blesses those who abide by it's principles, but does God bless us because we deserve it or does He bless us because He chooses to ?

It seems to me if we deserve the blessings of God,then the principle of Grace is thrown out the window.
If one works for an employer, and draws a check from that employer, that check is not a gift it has been earned.

Do we ever deserve to be receive The Blessings of God ?
Or do we receive the blessings of God because they are gifts of grace ?
