The bible was written by men.

We can all agree that the bible didn't fall from heaven. The ideas contained within its pages MAY have fallen from heaven but it itself was written on material taken from the earth by the hands of earth dwelling men. These men wrote the truths God had revealed to them in their own earthly languages.

To make matters worse, the languages of these men were living. The languages changed and words took on new meanings and new connotations. In fact, english has changed soo much from what it was originally that most of us would have difficulty deciphering a passage written in Old English.

So what does all this mean? It means that we cannot take as fact any doctrine based only off a word in the bible that may have had different connotations in the day in which it was written.
