Bible on CD?
We have a gentleman coming to bible study who only has a 3rd grade education, and learned to read in prison, but really struggles to understand the written word. He wants to read the Bible, but has great difficulty understanding some of the language.
We want to bless him with the Bible on CDs that he can listen to. We live too far away from a christian book store, and so I was shopping online at amazon and the choices are tough... too many!
Can anyone share their experience with Bible on CDs, if you have a preference, or what version (KJV, NIV, ESV etc...) that would help someone get a clearer understanding of the Word?
Thanks so much!

Re: Bible on CD?
I think any of the modern translations will be a lot easier for him to understand than the KJV. I enjoy the NKJV, NIV and lately the Holman's HCSB.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Bible on CD?
Are you near any Barnes & Noble bookstore? They have a DVD section that has the Bible on DVD and also Bibles on CD.

I don't know if it exists, but if it does, look for an audio version of "The Open Bible". I have problems understanding the King James Version of the bible, but the Open Bible has an introduction at the beginning of each book, history, and notes during reading that thoroughly explain what you are reading about.

Re: Bible on CD?
Thank you for all your input! I am thinking I may need to get the Open Promise Bible for him, because it is dramatized, and would be easier to listen to perhaps? Thanks for sharing the video Shag! I had seen the Open Promise on amazon, but had passed over it because I wasn't sure if it was some new translation, and I would really prefer a close to the original translation, but yet simplified, and the New KJV would be great for him, I think. The Open Promise seems to have dramatized the story to make it come alive, and I think this would help keep his attention, and get the words into his heart.
So, thanks again so much to all of you who responded - this is part of what AFF is all about to me - lots of great input when you have a question!!!!

Amen to that...all this was missing was Timmay suggesting a book about the theory of evolution, or a walkthrough about deprogramming yourself from the pentecostal church, and it would have been complete.

LOL - well... I did go ahead today and purchase a bible on CD. It wasn't the Open Promise one, although I really liked it. That one cost 95.00 on amazon! Yikes! Anyway, I did purchase the NIV Bible on CD with dramatization, and history before each book (Thanks Matt for the heads up on that), and I also ordered a NIV large print Bible so that he can read along with the CD.
Help us pray that this man will find hope in the Words of Life that he can hear!!!
