Gambling with our kids!!!!

Is it right? Is it worth it to gamble with our kids?

We place them in vulnerable situations especially our teens which may not be the best for them. Some have godly parents to "watch" over them and some don't. Sad to say, ashes to ashes and dust to dust is pronounced over some of them spiritually.

Yes there are those who argue that fences keep any and all interaction with the world from happening. Hey there's more ways to interact with the world than over a basketball, football etc. I see strength in saying "I don't want a sport to be my god." I know people who have stepped back from great careers in the sports world because they felt it was going to be a hindrance to them spiritually.

And yes there are those who argue that we make "whimps" out of our kids by protecting them from pitfalls.

And yes you are absolutely right that there is no guarantee if you protect them that they will turn out good.

My argument is that teens are too "precious" to be gambled with in the sports arena.

What think ye?

I think you are wrong.
I think you will raise kids unable to withstand temptation when they grow up and leave home.
I think you will have fat kids.
I think you will have kids that resent you - over an issue that means absolutely nothing and doesn't matter.
I think you should never let your kids attend public school, cause they are in for a severe shock; sports is the very least of their worries.

I think team sports are extremely healthy for kids. My kids both played baseball or softball for years. Zac played football one year. They both played basketball. It helped to build confidence, team spirit, and relationships. As they got older and the competition became more fierce, they both opted to drop out because the pressure to perform overcame the fun of the sports.

Eddie & I met so many people from our town at these ball games. It was our main area of outreach during those years. Sometimes pastors tend to get very insulated and only are around their church folks if they don't work an outside job. It was a great way for us to meet other parents and interact with them. We were able to witness to many of them, and several of them actually ended up coming to our church.

Where do the "fat" kids come from
From no sports you mean?
There's other places to play sports.

Sorry, we Apostolics have been led to believe physical activity (other than stuffing our faces) is of the devil. Thats why we struggle with weight so horribly.

Organized sports is a healthy way to exercise, fellowship and win souls.

So you are of the persuasion that gambling with your kids is a good thing? Of course no one knows what might have happened if the time spent on sports had been spent on things with eternal value like Bible Quizzing or other such activities. Glad you were able to influence others for Christ!

Can I tell you about two boys? Both had Mom's 'In the Church". One's dad was dead the other had a dad that did not go to church.

The one who's Dad was dead was a great bible quizzer and could quote frontwards and backwards. He backslid.

The other boy played little league baseball and football. He is a preacher of the gospel today.

I disagree. Apostolics have not been led to believe that physical activity is of the devil. I've been led to believe that it "profiteth little". You will surely agree with that statement?

When compared to eternity, what you do with your body here should seem like a little. But taking carfe of God's temple here, helps you get to there......

And back in a day when physical activity was a way of life, it meant less to exercise back then.
