Religious or Christian

Lately the Lord has been dealing wih me about being a Christian. Throughout the Bible, from the Old Testament to the New Testament God spoke directly to man about how they should treat his/her neighbor. For instance:

The Ten Commandments:
3/10 Commandments talks about our relationship with God.
1/10 Commandments talks about about ourselves. The Sabbath is for us to rest our bodies.
6/10 Commandments talks about how we are to treat other people.

When Jesus came to earth and started to teach it was about how to treat our fellow man. There was very little about how to dress or our outward appearance unless it came down to criticizing the Pharisees for judging others for how they looked.

The teaching waned away from how we treat other people when Jesus left this earth and turned things over to His disciples. That is when religiosity came into being.

I have decided to stop being religious and start being a Christian.

Re: Religious or Christian

You have begun an ultimately lonely journey, and your earnestness in this endeavour will be tested. I wish you the best of luck; this is the end of life as you know it.

Re: Religious or Christian

I try not to call myself a 'Christian' too much any more... Since it became the banner over a political movement I just do not fit that identification... I am a follower of Yeshua, commonly called Jesus Christ.

This doesn't mean that I agree with the screaming guys on the radio or the ones begging for money on the television... It means that He is the Lord of my life, that my thoughts and feelings are molded by Him and His love for people.

And that IS my religion, so yes I am religious.

Speaking of followers of Jesus.........I would recommend a book by Kyle Idleman entitled "Not a Fan"

http://www.christianbook.com/not-a-f...FcLc4AodXVcAKA

This book has been a great read, and challenges one to examine their motives and direction.

Re: Religious or Christian

See, I disagree that it is a lonely journey because I am walking with Jesus. He is all that really matters anyway. The more I love Him, the more I love myself, the more I love others.

Crazy Love by Francis Chan is much like that.

Christianity is not a religion.
Christianity is a relationship.
