Re: Man Arrested For Speaking Against Sexual Book
What is this, Russia?
Seriously. We can't speak out against a filthy book the public schools push to the kids behind the parents back? Ridiculous.

Re: Man Arrested For Speaking Against Sexual Book
Disgusting. And by that, I mostly mean the condescending, patronizing, controlling, tyrannical behavior of the board chairman and the cowardly silence of all the other board members.
One person commented on the Youtube video and said, "Need to investigate the school board to find out who the pedophile is." Um...I AGREE! Seriously, this is great material for starting off a Law and Order:SVU episode.
The most telling component was that no one would read the book aloud, and yet they expected children to read it. I wonder if they read excerpts aloud in class?

Re: Man Arrested For Speaking Against Sexual Book
He was arrested for behaving badly, not for speaking against the sexual book.
The excerpt in question is disgusting and I would be very upset that this book was distributed as mandatory reading for a high school class.
Had this father been a teenager, we would be glad to see that teenager made to show respect for law enforcement officers as he is thrown to the ground for running his exhaust pipe.
This father's attitude made me angry enough to want to tweak his handcuffs or pull up on his hands even just a little bit to purposefully cause more pain to him in hopes it would make him shut up.
This father definitely had the attitude of a rotten teenager, but the restraint that comes with maturity so instead of getting his head bashed in by the police officer, we get to continue to hear his nauseating voice.
Moral: Don't be too quick to blame the teenager when he is bashed by law enforcement.

JD...he wasn't behaving badly. He was just talking. I was annoyed with the person recording the incident, because he wasn't simply (silently) recording. The police officer was polite, but I'm not sure he or the chairwoman were actually within their rights to stop the man from talking. It's not like it was a courtroom where the judge has the right to stop people from talking or they will be held in contempt, for Pete's sake. It was a school board meeting.
It will be interesting to see what comes of this, if anything. Personally, I would like for the entire school board to be fired for being too scared to read the book excerpt aloud. I don't think they were scared of the book content, mind you; I think they were scared to death of Hitlerella.

Re: Man Arrested For Speaking Against Sexual Book
If the chair-head cannot set a two minute limit for comments in a public forum, you open the door to all sorts buffoonery.
By the way, that father's behavior was pure buffoonery-- terrible example as to how to go about handling disagreements over public policy.
Take away 25 years of maturity from him and you have a teenager that would probably have his head bashed in by polite cops just trying to do their job.

How was he behaving "badly?" He barely raised his voice! This man has a daughter who was forced to read this trash without he and his wife knowing about it. This man deserves a medal for restraint. I certainly would have been just as upset, if not moreso.

I hope you never serve in law enforcement. Seriously. What you casually post is called police brutality.

How was it "pure buffoonery?" Was it that he dared to ask someone to read the letter they got in the mail from the school? Or was it that he objected to the issue at all? Should he have stopped when threatened? Probably. But to say it's pure buffoonery is a bit absurd.
You're not a parent, so you don't really have a clue. I do hope you get to be one someday, so you can understand the emotion this father was feeling.

Re: Man Arrested For Speaking Against Sexual Book
BTW, I thought the officer did his job well. He did his job and didn't escalate the situation with a bad attitude. Unfortunately, most officers escalate the situation by being a bully with a badge. They, like JD, think law enforcement is above laws and can do whatever they want to make the suspect bend to their will.
