God: My marriage planner i
His NAME is Jesus!
It was late autumn, 1980, and Lupita and I were to be married
in December. I had bought everything she was to wear on her
wedding day...except for her shoes. We had shopped since
September, but could not find any white shoes. My sister Angie
offered to borrow some "almost new" white shoes for Lupita, but
I was adamant that they had to be new. We were to be married
the evening of December 17, and here we were the night before
the wedding. No white shoes were to be found in mid autumn.
We had attended a Church service that night, and a couple offered
to drive us to "La Garrita" (the border crossing), where Lupita and
I would cross the border to Juarez, Mexico, to her parents' house.
The last few blocks to the border were jammed with retail stores,
and they were all closed for the night. As Lupita said her good-byes
to Sister Monarez, I turned and and glanced at the windows of some
stores, and a pair of shoes caught my eye. They were white! As
Brother and Sister Monarez left, Lupita turned to me and took my
arm to leave, and I pointed toward the store window. She looked up,
saw the shoes and cried out: "Mis Zapatos! (My Shoes)"
Early the next morning, on the day we were to be married, we were
the very first ones in the store. Lupita pointed to the shoes in the
window, and the salesgirl asked for Lupita's foot size, and brought a
couple of boxes of shoes from the back room. Surprise of surprises,
none of the shoes she presented to Lupita fit...even though they
read her size on the labels: some were ˝ size larger, and some
˝ size smaller. Lupita had been trying on shoes for over 45 minutes.
At last, Lupita asked about the shoes that were on display. The
young salesgirl reluctantly took them down and brought them to
Lupita...and they fit like a glove!!! Those were the shoes which
Lupita had seen and cried, "Mis Zapatos (My Shoes)!" The only
shoes that would fit the Bride to be.
The Lord's plans for the Church, His Bride, are even more perfect: even
as perfect as His love for us. His promises are true, and His blessings
always on time.
