Your Opinion On Mental Illness.Spiritual?Chemical?

What is your opinion on mental illness? Chemical inbalance or spiritual issue? Do you think sometimes it could be different causes? What about treatments...pray through or counsoling or drug treatment?

I work with the mentally retarded. Some of them were badly abused as children. Some had high fevers at a young age. Some were born that way. In some I believe spirits are at work.

I heard Norvell Hayes say that every case of mental illness that he had dealt with in his years of ministry the person had committed some sort of sexual perversion, whether homosexual, or some other type of weird sexal activity. He thought that this opened the door for demonic activity in the mind. Your thoughts?

My opinions: Mental health issues come from a wide variety of sources- ranging from chemical imbalance, emotional trauma, injury and, in rare cases, demonic oppression.

Norvel Hayes should stick to teaching, and leave medical diagnosis to the professionals. What he is saying may be true in a few instances, but not in EVERY case, as he suggests.

whooo....back up rewind. He did not every say EVERY case. He said, every case HE HAD DEALT WITH. So the question becomes HOW MANY? He is in a postion to receive hundereds of prayer requests, but I cannot imagine him getting personally involved in more than a handful of cases.

I dunno...never heard of that person....could have a point...but I myself could not blame everything on sexual perversion.What comes first?Mental illness or the the sexual hangup....talking specificly in this thread about bi-polar disorder.

I don't jknow alot about Bi-polar disorder, but, if I am not mistaken, it can be treated and/or controlled by medication. If that is true, then, its clear to me that the dis-order is most likely a physical disorder rather than a spiritual problem.
