Discrepancies in Paul's Conversion

Acts 9:7

King James Version (KJV)

7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.

Acts 22:9

King James Version (KJV)

9 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

Acts 26:14

King James Version (KJV)

14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

Acts 9:6

King James Version (KJV)

6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

Acts 26:15-18

King James Version (KJV)

15 And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.
16 But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;
17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,
18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

in one account companions stood speechless, in another they all fell. in one they heard a voice in another they heard no voice. in one account the message will come from ananias in another account the lord speaks the message directly. which is it bible inerrancy folks?

Re: Discrepancies in Paul's Conversion

another example of why I said not to use the KJV

ESV
Act 22:9 Now those who were with me saw the light but did not understand the voice of the one who was speaking to me.

KJV
Act 22:9 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

A.T. Robertson
But they heard not the voice (tēn de phōnēn ouk ēkousan). The accusative here may be used rather than the genitive as in Act_22:7to indicate that those with Paul did not understand what they heard (Act_9:7) just as they beheld the light (Act_22:9), but did not see Jesus (Act_9:7). The difference in cases allows this distinction, though it is not always observed as just noticed about Act_22:14; Act_26:14. The verb akouō is used in the sense of understand (Mar_4:33; 1Co_14:2). It is one of the evidences of the genuineness of this report of Paul’s speech that Luke did not try to smooth out apparent discrepancies in details between the words of Paul and his own record already in ch. 9. The Textus Receptus adds in this verse: “And they became afraid” (kai emphoboi egenonto). Clearly not genuine.

  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Jesus is the Lord. No contradiction in source of message.

What about the men falling?

the first account (acts 9:7) says the men "stood speechless" the third account (acts 26:14) says they fell to the ground. the message from the lord was different in both accounts. the nrsv, the "scholars bible" translates "understood" as "hear". 3 contradictions that your commentaries can't explain.

They fell to the ground too but since only Paul heard the voice and was struck blind the others had no reason to remain on their faces
