I have a situation about my son and need advice.......KISS
My son came home today wearing a KISS t-shirt. I asked him where he got it and he said it was his band shirt for school and they are wearing them to homecoming.
There is no other pictures or writing, except the sponsors on the back, but the front says KISS with the typical backward Z shape of the S letters.
I'm not sure what to do about this. I'd like some advice from the forum members, especially those who have somewhat of a 'rock' background.
Thanks.
BTW, he's 16 and doesn't know KISS like most of us do.

From what you have told us so far it sounds like a no biggie.
He doesn't even know about the band and, unless someone pushes him on it, probably never will.
Pushing him on this would put him in a position where he will be the odd man out (which is not always a bad thing).
Everybody will wear a shirt that means nothing to them and when homecoming comes and goes so will the shirt.
I think this would fall under the category of picking ones battles.
You aren't dealing with a son who is walking around pumping KISS music into his head via earphones all day. You are dealing with a kid who is wearing a shirt for which he has little or no knowledge what it is about or who they are. For some reason somebody probably saw it and thought it was "cool" and so they made the plans.
Currently the shirt is meaningless to him except for their plans to wear it at homecoming. Make a big deal about it... and it ceases to be meaningless.

I agree that this would be a reasonable and balanced response.
Now, if he starts running around, a la Gene Simmons, with his tongue hanging out to the bottom of his chin... we need to get a little concerned. But, until then, if I were the parent, I would probably let it ride.
what is Kiss supposed to stand for if it's a band uniform?
Every musician knows that this is the mantra for all successful performance... keep it simple stupid! Good grief... don't they teach ya'll nuthin out yonder in CalYfornIA?

first off...
"KISS" does NOT mean "Knights in Satan's Service" like many have said over the years... The band won't deny that claim because, well, it makes them look cool and Gene Simmons was always about making $$ from the band (the whole thing was just a scheme to make money, the maekup and costumes were just makeup and costumes and nothing else to the band... they had no meaning other than they looked cool)
I'd say don't make a big deal out of it, KISS is actually EXTREMELY tame and even has songs ("God gave Rock and Roll" for example) that could be seen as "Christian" songs (and have been covered by numerous Christian bands)
the "Kiss" on the t-shirt could be a reference to a local "Kiss-FM" radio station and not the band at all... thier logos can be similar (depending on the area)
