"The Old Paths"

These past few Sundays in church there has been talk of the "Old Paths" and the "brush arbor days" why do some want to keep these old ways so bad for are they afraid if they loose them that they will loose more? No offence but it is 2009 time is moving forward not backwards..

Re: "The Old Paths"

There was a lot of excitement during those times. People felt like they were a part of something. There was a lot of fellowship and all that.

It was also comprised mostly of people who didn't have anything BUT God. All the distractions we have up here in 2009 wasn't part of their picture.

I love hearing stories about how it was back in the day...I even started a thread once, something like I remember when...

IMHO, it is good to remember where we came from, and to give homage to those who showed us the way/brought us over.

Moses admonished the children of Israel to rehearse the old days...to keep in remembrance how the Lord brought them out of Egypt.

The word remember is mentioned 148 times in the KJV...time is moving forward, but there is nothing wrong with remembering...

Not too sure that it might not get back to this point soon...........all we have is God!

Are we equipped to handle that?

I agree.

So, we need to listen to the "old paths" and learn from them how they had nothing and leaned on God for everything!

I took my 4 year old son to the Cemetery where I will one day be buried.

We had the annual Cemetery Association Meeting which included a community service and getting to see some old friends and relatives from the old home place.

I walked around the cemetery with my son and my dad and we pointed out no less than 12 direct ancestors across 6 generations of the family who are buried there. We talked about how the family came to that part of the world before the civil war. We pointed out those who had served our country and the medals won.

We talked about the family history because it is important that my boys know where they came from. It is important that they know the kind of stock they are made of.

It is a comfort to know that the foundation you stand on is solid.

Re: "The Old Paths"

It's important to remember the past, to learn lessons from the past, to give honor to our forefathers.

But the past is also frequently white-washed. People like to remember the good things, but often don't mention the not-so-good things. People were still people, and there were still all of the usual problems.

I think it's important to not idolize the past. But remembering the good things is important, too.
