Eddie just preached a sermon entitled "What's in a Name?" It was relating the OT Jewish practices to NT salvation. I had never heard it preached like that, but it was really interesting.
OT Jewish natural birth - being born into the Family of God.
NT repentance - being born into the Family of God.
OT Circumcision - receiving the Family name
NT Circumcision (Baptism) - receiving the Family name (name of Jesus!)
OT Bar/Bat Mizveh - sign of maturity; receiving teachings
NT Holy Ghost infilling - sign of maturity; being taught and led by the Spirit.

What are your thoughts?
Is there OT support for circumcision = receiving the family name? This isn't ringing a bell with me.

That's one verse... need one or two more... stop proof texting.
Luke 2:21 indicates that naming happened at circumcision
I can only think of two verses where circumcision and naming seem to happen at the same time. Neither verse is trying to prove anything. They both just record something that happened according to the custom of the time.
