What Kind of Mother Do/Did You Have?

My Mom was 42 years old when I was born (my Dad was 54, second time for both of them) and I was her BABY to her dying day.

In her later years I was her Pastor, she was never out of her place or never expected any preferential treatment, but she also never let me forget that I was her BABY BOY.

Oh such praying she could do and the sweetest spirit.

My Dad said that she was everything that he ever wanted in a wife and she was every thing I ever wanted in a Mom.

Mom was a Christian that believed in living for God 24/7.

I miss her.

Wish she was here I would buy her a corsage and give her my biggest hug and tell her Happy Mother's Day, MOM!

I was diagnosed ADHD/dyslexic in the third grade. back then they didnt call it ADHD, they called it hyperactive (ha!). Not a soul on the planet disagreed with the hyperactive part!

I pretty much failed my way thru kindergarden/first grade/second grade. But when I got to third grade, I had this old wise teacher that told mom and dad that I needed some help.

the jist of it was, I went on ritalin and got to go to "special classes" boy that was fun. Anyway mom decided that I would only take the medicine during school time even though the doctor told her it would calm me down and make her life easier 24/7. She felt my health was more important.

This also meant that by the time I got home from school, the drud had worn off and homework had to be done with no ritalin. Mom figured out my attention span was about 15 minutes. So every single day for 2 years she sat with me to do my homework. 15 minutes of work, then outside to play for 15 minutes, then repeat until homework was done.

we did this for all of the 3rd grade and 4th grade. By the last 6 weeks of 3rd grade, I was on the honor roll, and had gone from the bottom reading group (1st grade level) to the top reading group (5th grade level). I remained on the honor roll (most of the time) until I graduated highschool

By the end of the fourth grade, my mom and I had worked out how to train me to study and by the fith grade I was on my own. I got off the ritalin in the second six weeks of 5th grade, and never looked back.

If it werent for my mom, I would have been in serious trouble. I know guys that I grew up with who had the same issues I did, and by highschool they were real trouble makers, hooked on drugs and ended in jail.

Mom saved me.

Wow Ferd. You have just described my 8 yr old son. The principal and guidance counselor demanded he be medicated or put into special education because he was "too hyper" for the regular classroom teacher to handle. His teacher in 1st grade told me he was testing way above his grade level and was showing out because he already knew what they were trying to teach him. I'm homeschooling him. I hope that he will have kind words to say about me when he's grown.

the "What Mother's Day Means To Me" thread was quickly

going off of the front page and continues to go farther away.

Just wonder if that might be one of the problems of today.

Many mothers have seemingly lost that special place in the

heart of our families, our children and our nation. I guess we

will see what happens Father's Day. One of the ten command-

ments commands us to "Honour thy Father and thy Mother that

thy days may be long upon the earth .." I personally know that

there is not the love and respect in many cases of parents. But

love and respect cannot be forced, it must be earned. So if

the children do not show love and respect for their parents, it is

not the children's fault altogether, but it could just be the parents

fault. There is a reason we are told to train up our children in the

way they should go and when they are old, they will not depart from

that training. After they mature, they know why they were taught

what they were taught. It was Biblical principal.

I am not pointing a finger at anyone. Just speaking in general. We

do have some serious problems in America and we had better start

investigating why and what the problem is. If your plumbing in out of

order, eventually it will back up on you. Then it gets to smelling. So

it is better to get what's out of order straightened out before the floods

come. It's better to wade in a little water than to try to swim in sewage

up to our necks!!!

Blessings on all the mothers everywhere and may God give us wisdom to

see and do what needs to be done, in Jesus Name!! Maybe we need to get

down on our knees so we can see the problems better!!!

How IS your Mom doing! Is she over her treatments!

Did you read my post on the "What Mother's Day Means

To Me" thread! There is a picture of my late Mother there also.

I pray you have a great Mother's Day. You do have a

child or children, don't you! There are so many on the

forum sometimes I forget who has children and who doesn't.

I love mothers and children. Would be a sad world without

them!!
