The Plan of Salvation for a Backslider
This was posted by someone in a 1-step vs. 3-step debate here on AFF. This question was sort of ignored due to all the other bickering going on. So, I'll ask it here. If a saved person (meaning has completed Acts 2:38 and is living holy) backslides, must they obey Acts 2:38 all over again if they want to be saved? To what extent can we backslide. We have "citizenship" in a spiritual sense, one way or another. We are children of GOD and in HIS Kingdom now if we are in Christ. Before this we were children of disobedience and of the devil and outside of the Kingdom. Can one go from darkness, then light, then darkness (as they were in darkness before) and then light again? I look forward to the responses!
GOD BLESS!
Bro. Alex

Re: The Plan of Salvation for a Backslidder
Yes! We ALL do this in varying degrees. If we say we have no sin, we are liars. There is NO ONE who has been saved who has not disregarded the scripture. We can talk about holiness all day long, but at the end of the day, we still have a flesh to contend with and NO amount of Holy Ghost will keep one from sinning. Ain't EVER happened and never will.
The real question is how far can someone go and "revoke" their salvation/sonship etc.
I have re-baptized people who were baptized in Jesus' name previously. Not because I thought they needed to, but because THEY thought they needed. It was important to them to put some things behind them.
BTW, baptism, as we call it, was mikveh in the NT and was practiced by the Jews. It was not something new and was done frequently...hence the multitude of mikveh baths in Jerusalem in Jesus' day.
The short answer is all they really NEED to do is ask for forgiveness!

Man Of Word,
Were these people your congregants? Either or, why not reaffirm 1 John 1:9 rather than participating in an erroneous misconception of re-baptism?
It's evident these people don't understand the concept of baptism and forgiveness, reason being, they would rather re-baptize than to ask for forgiveness.
Here's an interesting question:
1)What does RE-baptism accomplish that repentance prayer can't?
This indicates they lack faith in repentance prayer, and interestingly enough believe in forgiveness through re-baptism.

I would think it would be the concept of 'washing away the sins' that would be a reason for re-baptism.
Maybe they just thought they would feel cleaner after doing it again?

Well, their first baptism had significance (washing away sins), but their second baptism was just a bath.
Anyone RE-baptizing for forgiveness lacks faith, and denies complete forgiveness of sin through prayer.
Just what the world needs, another false doctrine.

Well, if we hang around this thread long enough, we can just start counting.
