Thoughts on the Finished work of the cross?

The thought of the finished work of the cross is awesome. Everything that is required for us to serve God successfully and live as overcomers was provided for us through the work of the cross. God need not lift His little finger to provide us with something the work of the cross did not already provide us. Therefore, it is called the FINISHED WORK OF THE CROSS.

Anybody have some great thoughts to share about this issue?

Agree completly. I have to say however, that what was completed at the cross has to be applied to our lives. And that can come in stages and each individual can have the experience differently. In my case--I was raised in a pentecostal trinny church and received the HG at 6. But as I grew older I did not live victorious until years later, after I was baptised. It took a few years to happen, but I can say with hindsight that baptism and the revelation of JC is God was the turning point in my life.

Amen, it does have to be applied many many times throughout our lives. It is something completed and finished that we must refer to and appeal to over and over again.

This reminds me of some thoughts about the finished work. I just shared some thoughts yesterday with someone who is a recovering backslider and we spoke about his need to understand he does not owe God anything, since the cross paid it all. He has to sincerely repent and forskae sin, but he does not OWE God due to the finished work.

On another unmentioned forum where primarily there are just preachers many on there had difficulty in this matter, they can't let go of man's responsiblity to help God out in the area of sanctification.

Haha. Three words explain it all. IT IS FINISHED. Lack of this revelation leaves churches and Christians very weak. When we go at anything in our human power, and not leaning on his finished work and provision for us to overcome, God says, "Ok, handle it in your weak human power and see how far that gets you.... while you insult my work on the cross."

Galatians 2:21 KJV I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Law represents any human effort accomplished without reliance and faith in God's provision.

You mean (gasp) they want people to appropreate the finished work indiviually?

the finished work of the cross extends to all humanity. even muslims that might want to fly a plane into a building.

It does however, seem to me that as individuals we have some responsibility to appropreate that finished work to ourselves.... but Im a crazy three stepper that actually thinks the words "Obey the Gospel" is in the bible and actually means something....

Appropriating the finished work is a far cry from thinking we must exert human goodness in order to excel in the spiritual. When I think of people helping God out I think of people using their human "righteousness" (joke) to excel.

We have to appropriate the work of the cross by faith, but not through thinking our goodness and righteous deeds award us anything whatsoever.
