Is this the scripture we teach to be separate?
Is the scripture we teach to be separate or is there another?
2 Cor 6:17
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
(KJV)

I'm pretty sure that it is, even though taken out of context.

The setting is in Corinthians and speaking of their temple idols. Just as plain as that. On principle, we could equate that to the Word speaking to a Buddhist, Catholic, etc. Or rather, it is still speaking to these groups today!

Re: Is this the scripture we teach to be separate?
I do believe in separation in manner and dress.
Quote:
|
I Timothy 2:9-10 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
|
This scripture is speaking of "excess and pride" by using the terms "costly array". That is not goldly - pride cannot be godly.
Her shamefacedness comes from the meaning of "downcast eyes" and is speaking of bashfulness and modesty toward men.
It is also speaking of "good works" to follow or be coupled with our outward manner and dress.
So, yes, I do believe in separation in that sense.

Is this necessarily 'separation'? There are atheists who dress modestly.
I'm not sure that God demands that we dress differently (separately) than the world. 100 years ago everyone, Christian or not, looked the same.
And as has been frequently pointed out, our men don't dress 'separate' from the world.
I do believe in dressing modestly, but I don't think it's so we'll be 'separate'.

Re: Is this the scripture we teach to be separate?
amen people have twisted this scripture way way out of context--- and they use it to control people, and their so called holiness or being seperate from the so called dress of this world yes we are to be modest---but in doing so these people make a spectical of themselves looking different does not seperate you from the wolrd, the holy ghost, the spirit inside you seperates you from the world
