It was an extremely rare thing for a Jewish man not to get married, let alone a Rabbi. The first commandment, according to the Jews is: "Be fruitful, muliply and replenish the earth." Having a family ranked #1 to the Jews from what I have read, of the commandments, and we're not talking about the Decalogue, we're talking about the 613 Mitzvot of Jewish law.

It is more than probable and In all likelihood, Paul was married at one time.

I believe that Paul's wife did not convert and he divorced her. Thus his writing that if you were married to an unbeliever that you could divorce but not remarry.

I also believe that the thorn had something to do with it all.
