Where DO they come up with these names?

Most names can be traced back to some ethnic origin or other but there are some names that leave one asking "How in the world did they come up with that one?" Here are some examples:

Blondie Orange
Female (Feh-ma'-lay)
Quiashawn Dakaritia (first and middle name of a boy)
LaShawn (a boy)
Dweezil (Frank Zappa's boy)
Tafiqua
Lemonjelo

I'm sure you can come up with other examples...

I know a lady who was a school teacher and one year on the first day of school she was calling out the names of each child check attendance....

When she came to one name she decided to ask if Ms. (called the last name of the child) was here.

She said she was.

My teacher friend then asked how to pronounce her name to which she replied Sy-PHY'-lus

Her name was spelled syphilis

The parents must have been either stupid or cruel.

Since their cruelty would have been experienced, not only but the child, but by themselves as well...

i have to go for the former.

She should consider spelling it as two names: Sy Phyllis. Then, when she's old enough, she should very seriously consider changing it to something at least half-way normal (there are times when I wish I had changed my name when I was a lot younger).
Seriously, though, here's an article for thought:http://www.intrepidmedia.com/column.asp?id=1621And another:http://www.olimu.com/WebJournalism/T...cDiversity.htm

There is a lady who's name I cannot type here, but it's pronounced Shih-thead (theed). Take out the second h and you have the spelling of her name.

I've heard this one, also heard of another one where they named thier kid after an anotomical part.... donkey + hole. It's so sad that there are people out there who do that to their kids.

On a funny note... I was almost named Kolista. Praise God for my mothers best friend being there while she was in labor.

I have a friend named Rechara (pronounced ra-shara), it is a combonation of her mom and dad's names.

No, I'm not. The person who told me that said she worked somewhere in UPC headquarters too. I'm not sure how long ago though.
