I have a friend I call "Father Froelich." He's about a year younger than I and he and I do lots of prayer visitation for the Vineyard Church. I have not gone to the Vineyard since the spring of 2006 and have resigned from the prayer ministry in writing to make it official but he keeps calling me to go with him. This man loves the Lord and has been baptized in the Spirit. He was immersed some years ago in an Assembly of God Church. He is a member of the Vineyard Church but considers himself to be Roman Catholic. He goes to mass every so often and even confession now and then because he likes the personal interaction with a priest.
I don't bring my Bible with me because he always has his well worn and thoroughly marked New Jerusalem Bible (with the Apocrypha). I kid him and call it his "Cross back Bible.). When we anoint people with oil and pray for them he has me quote
James 5:13-18. We tell people we are "elders" because we are old. We tell people that we are a team -- a Catholic and a Pentecostal.
We use his oil to anoint folks. It's from some Roman Catholic Church in South Dakota. If he does the anointing, he says, "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." If I do the anointing I say "In the name of Jesus" or "in the name of our Lord Jesus." I remind him that he says he uses the "name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost" but he doesn't actually say the name.
I think very highly of this man and consider him a friend and a brother.
