Re: Non Jesus Name people you admire

Growing up there was a Mennonite community in my town. I attended their Summer Vacation Bible School program for 13 years. Mr. Longernecker and Mr. Ebersole and their wives were some of the sweetest, most Christlike people I have ever known. They were genuinely respected by everyone in our town.

I truly loved them!

Re: Non Jesus Name people you admire

My wife is in the hospital and has had some rough times. Today, a young man "ministered" to her in two unfortunate and very messy situations. He is a PCA, and we talked with him a little. He worked for Ford Motors in Detroit for 10 years and has left them and studying to be a nurse. He has one more year to go to get his degree. He will be a great nurse! He is a great person! He talked about seeking God's will for his life and ways to serve others. When my wife asked him what church he was affiliated with, he said, "Catholic." He said his brother and sister are no longer Catholic but Presbyterian and are in some type of mission work in medicine. He mentioned looking forward to giving some of his time to serve with them in a clinic. As a "one-stepper" I have no problem considering him my brother. His attitude and demeanor radiated the love of God.

Re: Non Jesus Name people you admire

I have a friend I call "Father Froelich." He's about a year younger than I and he and I do lots of prayer visitation for the Vineyard Church. I have not gone to the Vineyard since the spring of 2006 and have resigned from the prayer ministry in writing to make it official but he keeps calling me to go with him. This man loves the Lord and has been baptized in the Spirit. He was immersed some years ago in an Assembly of God Church. He is a member of the Vineyard Church but considers himself to be Roman Catholic. He goes to mass every so often and even confession now and then because he likes the personal interaction with a priest.

I don't bring my Bible with me because he always has his well worn and thoroughly marked New Jerusalem Bible (with the Apocrypha). I kid him and call it his "Cross back Bible.). When we anoint people with oil and pray for them he has me quote James 5:13-18. We tell people we are "elders" because we are old. We tell people that we are a team -- a Catholic and a Pentecostal.

We use his oil to anoint folks. It's from some Roman Catholic Church in South Dakota. If he does the anointing, he says, "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." If I do the anointing I say "In the name of Jesus" or "in the name of our Lord Jesus." I remind him that he says he uses the "name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost" but he doesn't actually say the name.

I think very highly of this man and consider him a friend and a brother.

Re: Non Jesus Name people you admire

Many years ago when I was a young Christian and a member of a Baptist Church, there were several ministers I used to listen to on the radio as I was hungry for more of the Word and wanted whatever God had for me. I used to listen to Jack Coe, Glen Thompson, Oral Roberts, A.A. Allen and also to C.M. Ward who was the speaker on Revivaltime (radio voice of the Assemblies of God). I read Oral Robert's autobiography and also read other writings/books/magazines by these men. They helped lead me into more light and I thank God for them and their help in my walk with the Lord.

Re: Non Jesus Name people you admire

Bro. Don Spiers considered an Apostle in the Ceylon Pentecostal Mission until his death a few years back. He did street witnessing in New York in the 50's. He travelled in South and Central America in the early 60's preaching Christ. After joining the CPM he traveled worldwide preaching and praying for the sick. A great example for me having met him in 1977. He taught love and holiness like few I ever heard of.

Dave Wilkerson was my first strong influence for Christ. He helped spark faith in my heart and a love for soul winning.

Richard Wurmbrand who suffered greatly for Jesus name and comforted many thousands of others suffering.

A few more words about this young man named Steve. Yesterday my wife was dismissed from the hospital. A couple of nurses on the floor came by to see how she was doing. One mentioned that she would continue to pray for her. When Pat mentioned Steve, they all agreed that he was a remarkable young man. One nurse said that because of his schedule, Steve is rarely there and it was not an accident that he was there that particular day when he was needed so. They felt like God had arranged that.
