There is a fine line between pushing & leading.
We had a situation in Church yesterday where sadly a couple became hard headed & very stubborn toward the leadership (partly toward me-YEAH!)
I was dreading the service because unless a change came, we were going to meet after Church.
The person leading pre service prayer (we have an hour of prayer & a five or ten minute prayer to usher us in) had to push to overcome the nasty attitude in the atmosphere.
We broke through.
Worship started & the worship leader "pushed" a little bit in the singing and everyone
(most everyone) broke through to a mighty worship victory.
There were tongues & interpretation.
Alas, the meeting did not go well. They left in a huff!
I agree, there shouldn't be pushing but in some circumstances it is needed.
BTW, the person who gave the tongues is a 60 sister & this is her first service to do that!!!
Ron.....
Do you think that what your visitors might have been feeling was being overwhelmed and a little scared if they hadn't ever experienced that sort of thing before? It can be a very very heavy duty experience for people not acquainted with Pentecost and that kind of service.
I've heard people tell stories about how scared they were when they came to church for the first time. And how that when they were crying in the altar - it wasn't because of the presence of God - but because they were really absolutely and totally terrified!
It was an eye opener for me to hear someone relate this to me. We take so much for granted having been raised in church or been in church long enough that we're used to the presence of God and the moving of His Spirit.

I see what your saying to a point, but we live in Vancouver & we have very few who were intimidated by our worship.
We have had people say, "I don't understand it all, but I sure feel something!"

As they should! There's somethin' about the Holy Ghost and I've got it!!!

Well, it was just a thought in trying to figure out why they'd be feeling so out of sorts.
Sometimes when people feel conviction it provokes that kind of reaction too. Something else to consider Ron.

This thread has been so much fun I hate to leave it but my baby is screaming. "Time to eat... Time to eat.. Feed Me Feed Me" only it doesn't sound quite like that.
Must go.

Me too. I have a thunderstorm brewing and I'm trying to make a pot of spaghetti. If I burn my mushrooms and onions while sauteing I'm toast!
Excellent discussion and lots of good input. I'll have to check back later!!
