I am in the Bryant-Benton area, this has been one my better years financialy but I see the clouds ahead and am not looking forward to next year.

My goals for next year are more personal than financial ... I intend on getting back in shape and strengthening my walk with God.

BTW. I coach the boys and girls basketball teams for our christian school, we will be coming to Pine Bluff convention center for 3 days for State Tournaments in Feb. maybe (with AFF permission of course) we could grab a cup of coffee..

I will tell you, I was surprised when i went to the mall last week, there were absolutley NO parking places, people were obnoxious and their were record crowds. I'm wondering, if the recession is so bad, why so many shopping?
I do know that those in the auto business are really suffering though. many car lots are shutting down. I heard of one car lot having a "buy one car get one free" sale!
Okay I stand corrected. We have been affected by the real estate, I am not sure by how much though. We live just north of Houston. We were hit financially in 2007 and we moved to Houston area and have been blessed since. We don't have a business, but my husband is a plumber.

Par for the course, my friend...par for the course.

Seriously, aren't you the one who said you went to CLC with my brother?

08 was a good year for us as well.......

But if this offends some people I can.....

Predict DOOM AND GLOOM, pestilence and famine, cats and dogs, earthquakes, tidal waves, locusts, the nora virus, and pot holes in the roads! It IS coming!

There, now I feel better!

I believe that, by this time next year, we will be longing for the "gold old days of 2008."

I predict further weakening of our economy - and our constitution.

Re: Your Goals, Thoughts & Predictions for 2009

This was a good year for us; God blessed us enormously. But I am feeling a bit skittish about the future - just a gut feeling. I'm investing in metals this year; that's my goal. I have started slowly, but it's the direction I'm feeling to go.

Also, I want to sell a piece of real estate and get our house paid off completely. I will feel much better when I'm debt free. Thank the Lord I don't owe on any vehicles.

I am stockpiling some food and water upstairs - things like rice, beans, etc. I don't want to be crazy, but I do want to be prepared.

Churchwise, our offerings and tithing have not been affected in the least by the recession. Eddie preaches that we are refusing to participate in it , so our people are excited about the future. We are looking at a huge building project, but are trying to be wise. So far, we've only done what we can afford to do with cash that we have.

I know, most of all, that God is going to take care of us. But I want to also be WISE.

Good post. I am reading Dave Ramsey's book "Financial Peace."

Tina and I have been trying very hard to revamp our budget, cutting every nonessential expense possible. We've been stocking nonperishables for quite a while now.

Our goal is to get rid of every debt imaginable. Thankfully, we don't have a lot but, with God's help we won't have any.

Wise people think alike. We've been doing some of these very same things. not the wacky Y2k stuff, but when the handwriting is on the wall in bold red letters, it's time to do something.

I feel sorry for the people who have over charged, over spent, bought all the McMansions and now are at the brink of losing everything.

I predict the Russians will flex thier muscles someplace, brazil will become a major oil producing nation, the Phillipines will become a hot spot, and the Raiders will not make the playoffs again.
