Re: What do you miss from your childhood??
I miss innocence and the lack of cyncism.I miss getting to go hunting with my papaw and feeling everything was right with the world.I miss the childlike facination of the simple things like an empty dirt lot, or a drainage ditch over flowing after a spring thunderstorm, or the time we had an ice storm and the electricity was out...through a childs eyes that was an adventure not an inconvenience. I miss being to climb ladders with out fear before learning through experiance that falling hurts.

The Cubs won with a gland slam by Cubs shortstop Paul Popovich!
I miss the walks home from school with my friends, and stopping by this house that had a big pear tree in the back yard. I would knock down a pear and eat it while we walked the rest of the way home!
I miss going to Illinois District Youth Camps which I looked forward to all year!

My Grandpa was a Tigers fan. He never missed a game on TV. Well, sorta never missed. He always turned it on. But then he would fall asleep shortly into the game. The interesting thing was that if you came in and woke him up and asked the score, he always knew it! And he could tell you who was up and what had happened in the last play. I really miss my Grandpa. He was the best ever!
One little funny - Grandpa always kept loose change in his pockets. When he would fall asleep in his recliner, the change would fall out. So as soon as he got up from his chair, I'd be right there to get the change that had fallen out. He always let me keep it One day, when he knew that my parents were having an especially hard time and wouldn't ask for help from anyone, he "lost" a fifty dollar bill in his chair. My mom tried to make me give it back, but he wouldn't take it. She sure wasn't going to let me (an 8 year old) have that much money (remember, this is 1963!). So I got to go to the store and get a little candy and then Mom used the rest for bills, just like she knew Grandpa wanted her to do.

My 1st .22 rifle
Fishing and swimming in Blue ponds and at Cluff ranch
Playing basketball at the 8th ave courts...(I have tried to introduce my nephew to that but my knees wont hold up)
Mom...she is gone 9 years now.
When going through a difficult period in Jr High...being able to come home (we lived a block from the school) for lunch and feeling the refuge that was my home...mom standing at the stove and the love that she had for her kids.
Walking barefoot and running from shady patch to grassy patch to find respite for my burning feet...not sure I miss THAT though.
Christmas's with the family...our family was close and we had some of the greatest times.
Hiking Heliograph Peak with mom...she loved the mountains.
Moms candied yams...fortunately my sister makes them the same way.
Riding the river road on my bike.....

Re: What do you miss from your childhood??
I miss the big family holidays. All the brothers and sisters there. Usually extra were there also.
The innocence of youth. Unfortunately that gets ripped away from some far to early.
Calling my big sister, Sissy. Someone metioned early calling there mom mommy now just does not sound right. I feel that way about my sister. She was my Sissy for many years and then suddenly it doesn't sound right.
Mom. She is still with us but only physically and occasionally mentally.
Dad
The excitement of Christmas morning.
Listening to old radio programs with my mom. Burns and Allen, Abbott and Costello, the old ventriloquist guy (can not think of his name nor the dummies right now)
playing capture the flag

Margie - that story about your grandpa was so sweet!
My grandpa would slip us grandkids a Hershey bar and each of us thought we were his favorite because we didn't know he gave all of us one - lol!!!! Those candy bars tasted better back in the day!

Re: What do you miss from your childhood??
My grandparents would take me to the drugstore near them. This was back in the days when you could let the kids look around while you shopped and knew they'd be ok. (I miss THOSE days!). One day when I was 4, I marched up to the counter with a whole handful of candy and small toys that I wanted. I plopped it on the counter and the man rang them up. When he told me the total, I said to him, "Just put it on my Grandpa's tab, please." They all laughed about that for the longest time! When we would go back to Westhaven (the drug store), we'd walk in the store and the clerk would say, "Margie, what are you buying on Grandpa's tab today, hon?". The thing is that I thought they were serious!
One day my grandma bought me bubbles at the store and told me NOT to open them on the way home. These were before the days of car seats or even seatbelts. So I was standing next to her while she drove us home. I didn't listen too well and opened the bubbles. Then, unfortunately, I spilled them. Right down Grandma's back. Those bubbles ran right into the top of her pants and well, you know where! Oh my goodness!! I didn't know bubbles could sting so bad! They sure stung MY backside after grandma got done spanking me for not listening! LOL
