It's kills germs. No discomfort. For a 4 year old it might be a little scary - there is some "fizzing" going on - you know how peroxide works.

I've heard good results, but I haven't tried it on myself. I haven't had the flu in, I don't remember when. If I get a cold I just take extra Vit. C - it always does the trick.

For ear infections, I use garlic oil.

Take olive oil (or any oil if you don't have olive oil around) and put it in a pan on the stove. DO NOT OVERHEAT!!!! You just want to warm it, not cook it. Crush some cloves of garlic (2 or 3 should be enough) into the oil and warm it. Let it cool back to just above room temperature. You can remove the garlic at that point, or just leave it. I usually leave it. A few drops in the ear will fight off infection, both prevention and once it's there. Warm oil is also soothing when there's a lot of pain. The garlic is an anti-inflammatory as well as an antibiotic/fungal/viral...lol It's good stuff.

You can keep it around in a jar or glass bottle, it's good to have around for ear stuff in the middle of the night. Warm oil feels better than cool, but the benefits are the same. Don't microwave it. You can warm it in a bowl of hot water if you want to, it works pretty well once you have it already made and just need it warm for later.

And NEVER put anything in the ears after the eardrum has ruptured. Once that's happened, the best thing you can do is a rice sock or heating pad for comfort.

I hate to bring this up, but speaking of garlic - Did you know you could use a garlic pod for Hemorrhoids? My sister told me about it. She has tried it and it works! Burns like the dickens, but not for long.
