Great kudos to the church that offered its building! I am sure that when the congregation has their service tomorrow, they will be thankful for a place to have it and the name over the door will be the last thing on their minds
I am sure that there will be many unsung heroes in this great time of rebuilding....there usually are.

Right on MrsBOOMM, just like after the hurricanes. God's people do help each other and lift up His name.

As one who is still trying to rebuild 2 1/2 years after one of those hurricanes totally destroyed our Church... I can testify to that fact.

Re: GREAT NEWS - Jackson, TN
My whole point is.....to infer that UPC churches did not offer to help is what bugged me. It does not matter to me how close or how far apart they were. The thing is, to my knowledge, there is no one here who has the knowledge of whether or not there was an offer from the UPC churches. To infer that there wasn't is just wrong. We don't know what the churches have offered. Pastor Don Lance does not seem to be complaining.....he is looking forward to what God is gonna do!

Re: GREAT NEWS - Jackson, TN
I tend to agree with Mrs. BOOM, but I will say this- I find that our people are not as community minded as other denominations. And have just recently put an emphasis on this aspect of outreach. After living through a couple of natural disasters I can say from experience that only in Katrina did I see the UPC churches begin to reach out and help communities. When a tornado hit our neighborhood several years ago, the Baptist church came to clean up my grandmother's yard. I am not trying to be negative, just stating the facts as I see them.

Re: GREAT NEWS - Jackson, TN
JT - I agree that UPC churches should be more community minded and helping in disasters, etc.
HOWEVER, I don't think you can compare a UPC church not wanting to "rent" to another group that want to have services. We're not talking they lost their building by some loss - just rent the building for services (maybe until they buy a place.) Having been associated with a church that rented their facility to another group - it wasn't always a pretty sight. There is a quite a bit of headache involved. Some people just don't take care of something that isn't theirs.
Plus as an aside, in some states, churches have to pay tax on any income received from renting or leasing any portion of their building/property on a regular basis. Maybe they don't want to worry with something like that when they chose not to rent to another congregation.
JMHO
Now.... back to the topic at hand. None of us can really know what the full circumstances are - but I'm glad that the AG church offered - and like someone else - maybe God has greater plans for it than we can imagine.

I personally think that speaks well of the AG and the spirit of working together.
We may not agree doctrinally, but this is when its time to step up to the plate and be a help.
Amazing this is there are 3 other UPC churches in Jackson...and it was the AG that came to the rescue.
2.
Charlie Gibson (Good morning America) also hosts World News Tonight, has contacted Bro. Lance....they are sending their camera crews to the church to film and televise the first service after the storm.
It will be televised NATIONALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyways....what an awesome report out of the tragedy.

This is very exciting please tell us when this is going to be?? Wow, so both the UPC and the AG church will both benefit from the coverage.

Good job, Jeanie - I think most everyone overlooked this exciting aspect of the initial post!

Well, it's very exciting to have this aired on TV!!!
When a disaster like this happens in a community is when all bearers come down and brother helps brother - - it's a wonderful thing!
Too bad some won't be able to see it on TV (disclaimer - this is not anything bashing - just a fact).
