Respect is earned not given. Everyone operates by the same rules on AFF but respect is given to individual posters by those who feel they have earned it.

Not necessarily, but a respected member may end up with de facto "power," or freedoms, that a pathetic whiner doesn't get.

No. But perceiving any and every sleight or disagreement as an insult is likely to diminish the amount of respect a person receives.

I think others have qualified what is meant by respect is earned, Lady Rev .... everyone gets a basic level of respect ... but ... even in your own life some people earn and accrue more respect points ... sorry ...it's just reality.

Thats a respect based on ACTIONS. I don't think Coop was referring to that but rather respect for persons in general which sometimes is lacking on this forum especially when it comes to "unknowns and newbies".
