If the UPC believes that their attitude of holiness and separation is what is going to sustain them as an organization, they should be aware that there are a few things happening, ministers are leaving, churches are leaving, and many of those hanging on are starting to dry up*.

*Considering the statistics of the average size church in the UPC...what is it, less than 200 people? I am sure the dedicated churches greater than 500 in large metro areas will continue to keep the org afloat, however, these big churches are not innocent in absorbing (creating raisins of) those churches with less than 200.

There are churches leaving that are conservative and don't like the way things are going.

By churches do you mean the congregation and the pastor or just the congregation?

The UPC has only ever hs bee and will ever be as good as its reason for existence and then .... the cooperation of the members with that purpose. Get caught up and tangled in the net of issues and it all goes to pot.

Well kind of like that anyhow. *L*

I know of churches that have disaffiliated and cases where the church went out and the pastor.

There are always sub-cultures within any organization.. it's just humanity's way... even in the New Testament Church.. The Jews were at odds with the Gentiles... were they right????

I was in the UPC for 20+ yrs and have been out for over 10yrs. I had great times and saw some despicable things when it comes to treatment of the brethren. All in all, I think it has seen better days and that the best are behind it. However, I don't want to see anyone fail. I don't want to see an organization fail. Many of us could tell our horror stories of abuse and the like in the UPC and other orgs for that matter.

It really doesn't do us much good to do that though other than getting it all out, which may need to be done from time to time. But get it out, get healed and then move on. I really hope the UPC does have a turn around and come back. It's failure won't be due to my tearing it down and it's victory won't be due to my involvement. May God have His way!!

Practically everyone I know who is UPC has a TV. I did not even KNOW that it was expected for anyone in UPC NOT to have a TV until I came to the message boards a few years ago....LOL
