I think most people would agree that BOTH TV and the internet can be harmful if used to the extreme.

That being said, how many families and marriages that you know of have been torn apart because of TV? How many have been torn apart because of the internet? It's a slam dunk!

It all comes down to how you choose to use these mediums.

If you're trying to put a hedge of protection around your family, get rid of both!

A smart consumer researches a product well before committing to it. I WANT to know about these types of issues before I will buy a product. If the issues are just a little too wacky, I will never take the product seriously...

and believe me, it can be hard when you grew up with the product in your house and then have to accept that it was flawed all along and move on to something else (or in my case- just not even replace the product with anything else since they all seem to be flawed, and unnecessary).

The "product" that I sell is Jesus Christ. Nothing else. I don't try to sell the church, with all its faults and failures, to sinners! My goodness, the CHURCH is made up of PEOPLE, and therefore will be imperfect by definition. A perfect church is not possible.

It's amazing how our senses can become stronger...
Blind men can move about their homes without bumping into things..

Maybe Epley has super hearing quality because of his stature, or lack thereof.
Throughout the yrs he constantly had to jump with each syllable to hear what people were saying UP here!! A ladder was not always available!

And in time, Epley's ears became very sensitive... and now he can hear what is said in conversations that take place above him.... who really knows??

That some folks think you can trim your hair, and others think it must be uncut, but most agree it should be long (on a woman)?
In the UPC? Where are the folks who think you can trim your hair? In my experience, they mostly all agree that it should be uncut. (well, except for a few individuals who don't hold a license.)

I'm talking about the constituency as well as member-ministers. Also, what folks believe, and what they practice out of obedience aren't always the same.

Look, I think our stance on tv and internet is silly, but I'm for sure not gonna bring that issue up to folks who don't even know the truth.

What was the purpose? I don't get it.

Keep family business in the family.

Especially if you are a Pastor and have a son!

It's only embarrassing if you are faced with the current dilemma after preaching/teaching for years that it was wrong or "sinful".

There should be no problem in saying there is a difficulty in determining how we relate to current events and popular culture while protecting our children from undesirable aspects. Depending on their own walk with the Lord they may be able to contribute to such a discussion and may be honored that you include them in such provocative thought and debate.
