Re: Seeking the Baptism of the Holy Ghost

It helps to believe that Jesus wants to fill you, he is the baptiser in the Spirit.

So first focus on loving and praising Jesus

Secondly open your mouth, no one gets filled with the Spirit by keeping it closed, be vocal and bold in your declarations of praise and love for Jesus, after a short time of praising him, ask Him for the Spirit and then continue to praise him, if words form in your mind speak them out, don't stop until you are done drinking in the Spirit!

Don't think about someone else's experience, while there may be similarities we have no instruction manual in scripture on what everything should be like

Some stand up, some lift their arms, other sit down (Billy Cole liked that) either way, get comfortable and start yielding to the Spirit of God.

Sometimes, hands have to be laid on by another person to have that Spark started.

Don't let the naysayers get you down, it is a NT promise and Gift that pays tremendous dividends in the life of a believer.

Re: Seeking the Baptism of the Holy Ghost

First seek the baptism. Tongues are not the baptism. The anointing is the baptism. Anointing is by definition something that is felt. The baptism is the same as the "outpouring". Outpouring is when something is "poured" on something else.

Expect to feel something. Thats the way it is described in scripture. First the anointing/baptism of the Spirit then afterwards tongues will follow.

Re: Seeking the Baptism of the Holy Ghost

How do we lead people to seek the anointing?

This is the seemingly "manufactured" process that I struggle with. From your words, it sounds as if your are inducing the experience.

For example, You give the rationale for the experience, and then you "induce" the experience; however, how do you clear the seeker of doubts about self-performance after one has obeyed these instructions?

Where are your Biblical directives for giving these instructions? Which scriptures give a solid assurance equal to the precision and confidence demonstrated in your presentation?

I ask these questions with all due respect and in sincerity.

Thanks for the response, I am too concerned about working things up, but I do feel that scripture bears this out.

John 7
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing[g] in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

While I don't want to be formulaic there is a pattern here to interaction and reception of the Spirit.
  • Be Thirsty
  • Come to Jesus
  • Drink (Note I don't know of anyone drinking without opening their mouth)

I think any sincere, faith filled Believer that follows that pattern, Jesus will fill them and there will be an overflow(immersion) of the Spirit with accompanying signs.

My confidence arises out of seeing this pattern and the practical implications played out in my ministry and being connected with the Pentecostal movement all of my life.

Re: Seeking the Baptism of the Holy Ghost

Eph. 5 Another reference to the connection of the Spirit and something coming out of your mouth.

18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Be filled with the Spirit (ongoing interaction with the Spirit) involves
Speaking to one another with Psalms, hymns and songs
Singing
Giving Thanks

The common theme is something coming out of the mouth.
