Mercy For Barbara Hernandez?

Sentenced to life in prison without parole at the age of 16, should she be released because she has grown up to become a different person?

Read her story and let me know what you think.

Re: Mercy For Barbara Hernandez?

Adults commit the same crime and get less time. At 16 I was dealing with my Mom's sudden death. In no way was I making good decisions. I did start committing crimes, but nothing like the case of this woman. There but for the grace of God, go I.

With all due respect, the primary question is not about whether we can or should be merciful to these thousands of offenders like Barbra. It's about keeping society safe. If the rest of society is better off with them locked away, then so be it.

I think now they question the recidivism more. Is she likely to re-offend? Probably not.

I would not know... there should be statistics.

No different really~ You have a choice to do or not to do! I see Miss C's point also. Given this womans situation....who knows ~ As for a "repeat offender" ? I have known PERSONALLY... (my brother in law) who same situation...different circumstances...done 20 years...granted parole. Parole board asked him (all family was present) if he would offend again if in another situation and did he consider himself a "changed man".... he said he was a very CHANGED man...he was no longer the "kid" who did this crime....He had "found Jesus"... well, granted parole he got out and it was not 2 years later, he killed his g/f. He is currently on death row. Not saying this would be everyone elses case....but...????? who knows~

Anyone that has been institutionalized for long periods of time, in a very violent place. No matter how well they may do inside, may not do well outside of prison. Unless they have a very strong support group, and even then nobody can know.

Re: Mercy For Barbara Hernandez?

In terms of mercy and grace, is there ever a sin that a Christian can commit that will be forgiven by God while He continues to punish you for the rest of your life?

She was 16 when she was forced to participate in this crime.
Does anyone really think she is the same 16 year old little girl, over 20 years later?
