Who had a video disk player that had movies on a disk the size of an old 78 record? That's before the VHS and the DVD came out.

Re: Are You Old Enough To Remember

Milk came in glass jugs that you returned to the store. And soda also came in glass bottles that you returned to the store for a deposit refund. We would go around the neighborhood with a coaster wagon and collect old newspapers and then take them to the recycle place for cash.

Did anybody mention the helms bakery truck coming by with all kinds of donuts and pasteries?

Re: Are You Old Enough To Remember

I do remember the milk truck and the little two sided compartment on the side of the house used for delivery. It had a door on the outside and inside. I also remember dropping a new glass bottle of milk which of course broke and was a total waste. I don't know how much milk was then, probably about 25 cents like a gallon of gas.

Re: Are You Old Enough To Remember

We lived in the country on the end of a dead end dirt road and I remember when I was 4, 5, and 6 years old I regularly hitched a ride with the milk man to go up to the neighbor's house to play. The truck's doors were wide open and I sat on a pile of milk crates or just stood up for the ride. We didn't have seat belts nor did we have a care in the world back then. Can you imagine what would happen today if the UPS or Fed-Ex driver took off up the street with a 4 or 5 year old kid in their truck?

That reminded me of something similar when I was a little kid.

There used to be an older farmer who would plow up small gardens
for folks around the area with his horse and an old time plow that he
stood behind as the horse pulled. He had an old wagon that he traveled
back and forth in, that the horse also pulled. When some of us kids would
see him coming we would run to him and ask to ride with him up the
road a little while. He would always stop and give us a ride. He
was such a sweet old man that I will never forget.

You're right, that would not play out very well in this day and time.
So sad too.
