Chris, just remember buddy, that those people are looking to you for help.

There's things you will hear that will chill you to the bone and shake you.

High intensity emotions, stress, grief, fear...its gonna run the spectrum.

You can do it though man.

Yeah. I know. Ever since getting out of the military, I've tried to steer clear of high intensity jobs. Lol

Right now I'm a security access coordinator, working as a trusted agent between various DHS agencies like the FBI, TSA, Boarder Protection, and law enforcement. I do database management and run background checks on contractors, FBOs and aviation employees. I also use LEADS, and various other systems to track people, and relay information regarding use of electronic media behind security in local airports.

Think Penelope from Criminal minds. Only, working with aviation security. And... I'm not as pretty. Lol

They want to cross train us for dispatching to aid with staffing. I think they're hoping to save money by not hiring more dispatchers.

So now we'll be a real time communications center in addition to access control center.

Most of the time it's rather boring. Daily routine is background checks, and security threat assessments for new aviation employees. Once adjudicated with DHS, I schedule them with our training coordinator so they can complete training and receive electronic access media. I run periodic, and requested access audits and tracking. I also maintain our access media database and keep TSA up on any changes.

Other agencies might request information based on instigation.

When no information requests come through, no background checks are needed, and audits are complete, it's like being a Maytag repair man. Lol

I think that's one reason why they want to rotate us through dispatch.
