you know the funny thing about this is that the one looking is the only one who matters.

You see a woman dressed like you indicated above, yet, they could care less. A very very small percentage of the population have a body that worth showing off anyway, the others don't carry that stigma around that they are immodest. They are immodest because you carry the stigma.

Look behind you, who is chasing you?

Felicity's words quoted below are, in mind understanding, exactly how modesty is determined in the heart of the spirit-led follower of God:
Quote:
Whatever convictions I have in regard to this is not a result of rules or because it was drilled into me earlier on. It's about what the truth is in regard to real modesty and what is and isn't Godly and appropriate.
A witness is provided in the heart of every believer as to what they need to do. Whether we like it or not, the entire efffectiveness of God's transformation is NOT based on things that 'others' dictate or legislate.

IMO, this exchange is exactly the core matters being discussed on the other thread involving an article by Randy Hollis.

When these lifestyle choices are followed, they are followed because an individual believes they are following what pleases their Lord.

I just heard a CD by a very well known and respected and loved (by me) UPC pastor and he was talking about wedding rings and the significance of gold and all that (he does not do the ring thing in the weddings he officiates), but at the end of his remarks, he made the statement, "...but I will leave that in your camp."

I am curious why pastors give folks the latitude to make their own judgement on some things, yet they don't trust them to make the correct decisions for other things along the same lines?

For the record in my 40 years, I have never seen a male swimming casually (not in competition) wearing one of those nasty speedo swim suits. Most swimsuits nowadays are more modest than some skirts ladies wear to church...except for the fuzzy navel of course.

They are saying that this is the suit to keep women from drowning when they attempt to swim in their normal Bhurka robes.

Time magazine says that this suit is now catching on with conservative fundementalist Christian groups.

wow

Do they have burkha teddies?

Hey those suits are somewhat matronly huh? We don't mixed bathe so when
I do swim I can do it with family. When when we go to the beach we are with
family only and go where no one else is.We do wear long t shirts over our suits in the water.I just wear a bo ho skirt and a tshirt and walk out to
areas where no one is.We have mixed beaches here but what you see
is outrageious.Speedos are nothing compared to some here.I stopped to use the rest room at one pavillion and one of the ladies had clam shells with ribbons for the top and some sort of string thing for the bottom. The gay fest is yearly and they front page the men in speedos in the local paper. No thanks.
Modesty rules.Florida is a great place to live but those who live here have little time to go to the beach. We are like the rest of you....working.

You must have never been to the Caribbean. Most of the European men wear the nasty Speedos.

You know how we talk about the "christianese" language? Well, I think this is such a funny expression. I did NOT grow up pentecostal so I grew up swimming with my friends. We were very modest as far as bathing suits go, but I had never heard the expression "mixed bathing" until I married into a pentecostal family. It always makes me think of everyone in the tub taking a bath together!!

I think "mixed bathing" is a phrase designed to conjure up images of Roman orgies.
Just like "movie house" brings up images of Triple-X establishments.
