As far as "trying" to change- they did change. The "conservatives" have had almost unfettered success in running their agenda through the UPC at least since the 1950's. The Tampa vote was the first time that any element of their changes was ever rolled back.

I still attend a UPC, in some ways keeps the old paths and others its allowing more than it did even 5 yrs ago, gotta catch up with the time..

They and those who went to Tulsa to support and follow them have been a hollow subculture for some time within the UPC.
