If he had issues with Vaughn, he could have said it to the man straight-up, as Dan Alicea, just as he did in the past... instead of hiding in the bushes and hurling innuendo at the man. That's a cowardly, bush league way to do things, although you don't seem all that bothered by it. I have good reason to believe you'd feel a bit differently if one of us here had invented a new AFF name just so we could say things against your boy Dan, with the intention of sneaking back in with our regular name so nobody would know it was us ... (especially if that person made a point of announcing they were taking a 2-month break till September, like Dan did. ).
Also, I am not giving Vaughn "a free pass" on anything (another baseless assertion on your part). Maybe you haven't noticed but I've disagreed with him strongly on certain biblical/doctrinal issues on this forum, but I have stopped short of bashing him the way I see some others do around here.
However, I do believe that much the badgering he's taken over the PhD thing has been overzealous and misplaced, and not done in a Christian spirit at all. I have said myself that I don't believe he's lying about his Degree; although I can see why some might feel he is.
But just because I disagree with him on some issues, doesn't mean I shouldn't speak up if I think some of the things said to and about him are unfair and/or unnecessarily harsh. If you call that "giving him a free pass", then so be it.

Even not usng real names does not insure anonymnity. I remember a few years ago on a predecessor forum to AFF I was a new poster with much more anonymnity than I have now yet within a few days of posting a Canadian poster PM'd or emailed me with my name and had viewed pictures of my daughters wedding online!
Apparently if you are an amateur sleuth and are astute enough to put a few clues together you can find the goods on just about anybody.
As far as alternate identities goes on the forum usually ones posting style will give a person away. It is hard to adopt an alternate style for any period of time.
