Re: How long would AFF survive if like JP...

I think AFF would be fine. I believe most of the posters here believe what they post...but are open to and accept discussion....and I enjoy that.

I have not been posting long....but I really don't care for the sites where you have to call everyone brother/pastor/apost./evan./proph./teacher/elder...just so they feel like you are giving them the honor they are due.

Re: How long would AFF survive if like JP...

I think AFF would survive just fine if real names were required, however there wouldn't be as many members because many people wouldn't register using their real names for privacy or safety reasons.

I use my first name only, because I am female and choose not to use my full name for safety sake. Several of my posts have mentioned my church and pastor's name so if anyone really wanted to know all they have to do is go find it in my posts.

I've been a victim of an online stalker (local neighbor) before and choose for that to not happen again.

When I feel I know someone well enough online to trust them, I will share more info with them. Otherwise, I think the first name is enough for any type of online communication.

When TexasGranny changed to Cindy, it took me a while to make the adjustment in my mind. Same with LaVonne. And Jeannie will always be Jeannie in my mind, I guess. I'm having a real hard time thinking of her as Elizabeth.

I suppose it's all in what we get used to to start with.

One thing I really do like tho is when people use their first names. I don't need a last name. But I'd rather call someone George than to call them BugsEYe or something like that. You know what I mean?

I think it would exist, but it would probably be a kinder, gentler AFF. There would be a lot less bomb throwing, that's for sure.

I understand why some would prefer to be anonymous, and I have no problem with that per se.

But I do know that some of the the mud-throwers, who like to sling their mud under cover of anonymity, wouldn't post some of the stuff they've posted here if their real name were attached to each post.

Like sister Alvear, I prefer to know to whom I am speaking, and like Margie3, I get so used to calling everyone by their AFF name that even if I did know their real name...I have probably forgotten them...except for those I knew prior to FCF. Like edjen01, Tina, & TR France, there would be much less antagonism, harsh remarks, and insincere platitudes if people were posting under their own names.

My knee-jerk reaction is that when people choose to hide behind a name and try to intimidate another I just think they are just an insecure bully.

Blessings, Rhoni

A very small percentage of people do that. There are people - here - who use their real name and also have pseudo user name/names in order to give out knee-jerk reactions. What's the difference?

The difference is why they want to cause a knee-jerk reaction or who it is they want to take pot-shots at.

I agree the percentage is few...but they all espouse the same rhetoric...unchristlikeness.

Re: How long would AFF survive if like JP...

I decided to use my real name ,to keep me from saying or doing anything I might regret later.
I was believer on the old FCF,but when webby asked me to be an admin my cover was blown anyways.

Re: How long would AFF survive if like JP...

Some choose anonymity for a viariety of reasons. I will say that the particualr environment of a particual Forum does make a major difference. The criteria for membership makes a major difference.

For the most part I post the same regardless if of whether I am on a Forum by my real name or one with a screen name.

Some of the points made on this thread are valid IMO. Others ar eout in left field, IMO. But then again, there are very few things that are blanket statemtns that can be made unequivocably.

I probably am amongst those that some of you consider the one who hides behind anonymity (although many here do know who I am) and takes random potshots, etc. Maybe I do at times but most of the time I try to post substance and/or encouragement.

As a rule I avoid threads about personalities (even on JP and WS) and prefer to discuss issues. I almost never post about specific standards on any Forum.

Rhoni, at times we have sparred and I have been quick to rain on your parade. And you have responded in kind. However, please know there have been many prayers prayed over the situations in your life.

Although I seldom post here I do still lurk a good bit.

Ultimately, I am not sure why it really matters here what another Forum does. IMO, the poster who said even less folks would post if they had to use their real names here was dead on. And that is not limited to just the "horrible con" element that is becoming incredibly rare around here.

Blessings!

Bro.RRFord,

Since I do know who you are it is easier for me to speak with you. We disagree in many areas but there are some very important things we do agree on. I do appreciate your prayers and hope you pray the will of God and that God open my understanding to His way and not that I conform to the ways that many others believe.

It is my understanding of scripture that we all see through a glass darkly, but one day we will see things as Christ sees them and we will be surprised about how off the mark we all are.

I do thank God for his mercy and His grace.

Respectfully, Rhoni

Re: How long would AFF survive if like JP...

I post with a screen name for all the reasons stated above. Anyone who wants to know who I am can go to my profile and find out or pm me and I will tell them. I do not do it to hide behind anything, but I do think that the web is a big place and I just think it is best for me and my family that I use a screen name.
