Re: Backslider Justification & Delusion Forum

I use the term and never thought it was racist. This sheds some light to the term.
http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/cotton-picking.html

Meaning

A general term of disapproval, of something that is troublesome or a nuisance.

Origin

It can come as as little surprise that the term 'cotton-picking' originated in the southern states of the USA, where it is usually pronounced cotton-pickin'. It began life in the late 1700s and differs from the 19th century Dixie term, 'cottonpicker', in that the latter was derogatory and racist, whereas 'cotton-picking' referred directly to the difficulty and harshness of gathering the crop.

I am a firm believer in the Old Paths

This! Exactly!

"I can't find my cotton-pickin' keys!" is just a term of annoyance.

Re: Backslider Justification & Delusion Forum

Actually, this is hilarious. The Backslider Justification & Delusion Forum thread has become a discussion about being sensitive to and considerate of others, and what words might be offensive...

AND NO ONE IS ARGUING WHO IS MOST HOLY!!!!

Looks like no one is moving backward here, no one is justifying anything, and there is less delusion on this thread (since about page 8) than on many discussion threads.

(clear my throat, shake my head)

Uh....cotton pickin' is a racial slur? That's a cotton pickin lie.

Or....maybe it's the cotton pickin' truth. But whichever it is...it's cotton pickin' silly. And I guess I don't give a cotton pickin flip about it.

Oh, oh

your use of "flip" is the same as using another 4 letter "f" word

and on, and on it goes
