As part of the aging process, our eyesight starts dimming, we can start losing our hearing, our teeth start rotting and falling out... yet no one says that we just have to accept how God made us. We get glasses, hearing aids, and fix our teeth or get new ones.

Makeup is not intended to change how God made you anyway, just enhance it. Just like having a nice hairstyle.

Some people have very red, splotchy skin. A thin coat of foundation can even out the skin tone. Why is that a sin? I believe we give glory to God by looking our best.

Same thing about jewelry. It's beautiful, I love beautiful things. The Bible says that God would shower his bride with jewels.

Those are my reasons.
Thanks sooooo much! I bet this is how these ladies think too.

You see, I know I have a very narrow perspective and without others to "expand" my sight, I just will not be able to understand why others think the way they do. I tend to want to put everyone in my mold. LOL That ain't Jesus my friend.

A scripture that has always bothered me, once I did join a UPC-like church, was the one about the bride being decked with jewels. It seems that if God was against jewelry altogether, he would have either not put things like that in the Bible or would have at least said, "Oh, that stuff I wrote before, well now I've changed my mind and jewelry is really bad to wear since I came to earth as a man." ;-)

AQP I did not think you were arguing with me, because there are other things that God has spoken to me and other family members that was just for them. I don't tell someone else that just because God convicted me about something that it is for everyone. What God sees as a stumbling block for me doesn't make it a stumbling block for you. That goes the other way around too.

There are some things that God clearly spoke to me both to do and not to do in the past. Then later, I guess when He feels it's okay for me, He has spoken again and asked me to do just the opposite. "Shrug" I don't question what He speaks to me, I just obey. I do talk to my husband and see if he feels the same though.

I'm just not girly. I've always been a tom boy, I've always done "boy things". You'll usually find me in jeans, a tshirt, and tennis shoes. My hair is long, has been for most of my life, but it's usually pulled back.

The times in my life when I have worn make up, I wear very little and it's very natural looking. The process of putting it on both indicates a change in how I'm thinking, and I think to a degree, causes that change. It makes me feel more feminine. I tend to wear more skirts, dressier slacks, and more feminine tops during those times as well.

One day I felt the Lord question me as to why I wanted to change what He made beautiful in His eyes? I realized that I didn't think what He created was good enough for me.

At first I quit wearing makeup and "big" jewelry. Later I stopped wearing jewelry altogether. I thought I looked really dead without makeup at first, but I actually got my color back naturally without it after a couple of months.

Anyway, just because that happened to me I don't think it is for everyone. That doesn't keep me from wondering why others DO wear makeup and jewelry. I would not dare ask my friends this question because I think they would think I was judging them and just give a defensive answer.

Here nobody knows who I am, so nobody has to "prove" anything to me. I am hoping that some of you can help me understand why anyone wears makeup and jewelry.

All I know is that I was wearing it for all the wrong reasons and it was offensive to God. I would like to start wearing makeup again, especially since I am looking older every day. So for me to wear makeup would be wrong. God intended for me to look old because I am getting old. He could have easily not made men and women to look old. My friends seem to not like how God made me because they think I should wear makeup. :-/ I don't want to offend them with why I don't wear makeup and make them think that I think I am better than them.

Also, why don't men wear makeup?
Sorry you are so confused! The Lord loves color and changes the colors with the seasons just the same as you and I change our colors with our seasons of life.

When I was young I had beautiful skin and had no need of any makeup aside from Lip Smacker lip gloss and pinching my cheeks. I am older now and have a wrinkle or two and an age spot or two and I use a little makeup to give me color and enhance my best feature...my eyes.

Don't buy into the line of thinking we have been taught for many a moon...check out the scriptures and quit beating yourself up over wanting to wear makeup and needing an out for the irrational thinking you have had in the past.

This is kind of out of place Rhoni. She explained why she stopped wearing it, and that it's aside from any teaching from any one else. I feel her reason is very valid.

Sometimes, it's not the *thing* God is dealing with you about, it's your heart condition at the time. Then, if your heart condition changes, what you thought God prohibited might again be allowed.

And sometimes we can get confused about what exactly God is dealing with us about. For instance, I know someone who was reading a LOT of fiction.... plowing through entire series in just a few days, neglecting other things they should be doing. They started feeling convicted about that. So they concluded that reading that type of fiction was wrong for them. When in reality, it wasn't the fiction that was the problem, it was time management. Spending too much time reading fiction. They later realized that. When they started reading that fiction again, they weren't going against what God showed them. They had become better managers of their time, the fiction wasn't the issue.

I believe that God always concerns himself with our hearts.

I'm not arguing with YOU about the 'like God made me' thing... you're entitled to your convictions and opinions. But I disagree with it. Great post!

Its refreshing to see someone recognize cosmetics for what they are--technology. Becoming principle-minded is the key. Mentalities operating in absolutes tend to frustrate their faith with debatable parameters. The above post points out these inconsistencies very eloquently.

If it is indeed a personal conviction of hers then she would not be conflicted right now. What is the point of the thread if not trying to find a way out of a stand she made long ago but feels different about today?

A good therapist would confront her with the incongruence

Ummmm, did I say I was having a problem personally? I started the thread because I wondered why others wore makeup and I did not want to ask my friends. I didn't want my friends to think I might be judging them and I didn't want to put them on the defensive.

I know how easy it is for me to feel something so strongly that I can't see how others think. I am hoping that others will post too. I love understanding why people do things, it saves my prideful mind of working to come up with putting thoughts and intentions inside others.

Now I admit I am judging your posts.... Maybe you didn't read my entire post?
