I tend to play classics.... love Risk2! (Also fire up DTD for a quick 10-20 minute game).
Right now I usually only play games that don't suck up hours at a time simply because I need to be able to get a 'quick' game in between doing other things work related.

Well, by classics I mean the early to mid 90's. One of my all-time favorites is Populous! (And Populous 2 -could not stand 3.)

The boys play sometimes during the day..
I pretty much stick to BF2 ... Don't have the time to learn 2142... and really it's the only game I play..

World of WarCraft...
I never paid to play any game like that....not when the first one that started them off Ultima came out...not with the other ones that took it's place. I can't imagine paying $50 for a game...then pay an additional 10-15 dollars more each month on top of a fast broadband account....because you can't play those games with out broadband and in may cases, unless it's fast you still can't play or you will die a lot.
You can play Guild Wars though for free of monthly charge, but you still have to buy the game. I only played the Alpha version (yes pre-beta)...it was ok, nothing thrilling.
You can play NeverWinters Nights online in persistant worlds, though you would be on a server that is full of other players, which often is actually a bonus since if someone is doing an area you have to wait.
However NWN and WOW and all those other games like that are pretty much based on the principle of Dungeons and Dragons. It's fantasy role playing

The only thing that has stopped me so far is the monthly fee PLUS the fact that I simply cannot devote that amt of time to any one game. I do play a lot of stuff but always in 2-20 minute blocks of time.
I do love the role playing games from a pure tactical viewpoint and have played most of the Ultima games along with the classic Bards Tale's and a few others. Anyone else remember Tunnels of Doom for the old TI?
The only online game I have ever played where you actually interact with others is the original Quake.
