The doctors are to meet with us Monday evening after all her tests return and may go ahead with the surgery Tuesday. They have ordered strict bed rest and a special diet until then. Those of you who know my wife know she deeply loves the Brazilians and unless she passes out bed rest is not in her book! I would like for everyone to pray for her and that all will go well in the surgery. She has had surgery in this area before as you know our hospitals are not modern or clean like the hospitals in south Brazil where we once lived.
My wife has a horror of the hospitals in this area. Maybe due to all she went though during her mothers illness and death and the surgery she had a couple years ago.
I am not to good at English but with help from others I will try to keep all informed and maybe Sister Alvear can explain better if she feels to after all her results come in.
Pray for our family. Brother Raul Alvear

I HIGHLY respect your great wife. God is able to do what He needs to do and give her peace.

Sis. Alvear,
Prayers are going up and the healing is coming down...trust God.
Dear Jesus, our Jehoveh Rophe...we are coming to you now...knowing you care and have all things in your power and control. We ask that you guide the hands of the surgeon to make accurate and knowledgeable decisions for your handmaiden. She has been, is, and will continue to be a ministering angel to many. Heal her, encourage her, and strengthen her...
In Jesus wonderful and HOLY name.
AMEN

Thanks for so much concern. Yesterday and day before were very busy days getting tests run, blood work etc. I have had gall bladder problems a long time but after my last tests the doctor told me Thursday I must have urgent surgery that it is almost impossible to believe how many stones...He wants me to have complete bed rest until Monday evening late as one of my exams is only ready sometime after lunch Monday and Monday night he wants to put me in the hospital (?)...I say it with a question mark as things are NEVER for certain here...
I have had 4 doctors opinions they are all the same but this one last week told me I was in grave danger and for me to cancel all my speaking appointments and he would do it...
So...in the mist of so many things ...and yesterday I think Brother Alvear was so worried his blood pressure went up and had to spend several hours at the emergency room of another hospital!
Well, we won't talk about cost here but I did have to pay a private doctor to come where we were since I was alone and we were without a car and she helped me took care of things for me and in the end we got him to a hospital where he could get an ekg run and where they had a heart doctor! Until you have been to this area of Brazil no one really understands our hospitals...lol...
Anyway, Monday I will or someone will let you know what they decide about me...Really I am in constant pain but seldom mention it...
I deeply love you folks...
And Sherri and I had such a wonderful talk about Africa. In Brazil our local church is having "Africa" day...we will be at the church all that day praying for Africa. It will be in April I will post the date so if others would like to join us "much" prayer could be made for that part of the world.
As a missionary I can tell you first hand PRAYER makes a difference...the night of the robbery here in Brazil afterwards several people called me and told me that they had prayed hours for us that God had woke them up and burdened them...our family being alive today to tell the story is a sign Prayer is one of the the most forceful tools of our walk with God...
Friends, let's join our voices praying for Africa, China, Brazil and our whole world...

I will be praying. Also I pray in Jesus name that the fear will be gone, for where the Spirit of the Lord is there is no fear. I Know she will be comforted and the hand of the Lord will be with her to remove any horror or fear. God always takes care of His Children. It is a blessing to pray for Sis Alvear.

I believe it was the day I talked to Sherri that I had to go late in the evening to the hospital...
The last time I was in the hospital I took my lap top and worked on things for the work "when the doctors" weren't looking...ha.......Most of the time with one hand as they had IV's in my left arm...
In South Brazil most of the hospitals are pretty good but here in the northeast is another story...My sister cried when she saw the hospital where my mother was in and out before she passed away...
The church sisters and I took pinesoil and washed down the walls, floor and even her bed! It was filthy...however her doctors were sweet and one even came to church with us several times.
Where I had breast surgery (same hospital mother was at) I could not believe the operating room could be so dirty...the doctor saw me looking at all the "things" on the floor and he said, "Missioanry, they are going to sweep now..." I smiled...but didn't tell him it looked like they should have thought about that the day before!...I sometimes get tickled at my own thoughts...ha...
They gave me a couple shots of anesthetic something but I did not go to sleep...So I was awake the whole time...
I guess I have a real problem with their hospitals here...So If you folks would pray for me I would deeply appreciate it...
Love you precious brothers and sisters.

Oh, Sis, is there no way you could fly home for this surgery? I hate the thought of you being in a really remote hospital. I know what those are like, and they are not somewhere I'd like to be for an operation.
However, if you are going to be there, we will definitely be praying for you here in Tennessee!! Tell Bro. Alvear to let us know something ASAP.
