Re: Is This Blasphemy - Washington Post?

Bigotry was a correct term for the Washington Post. They refused to run a cartoon in August 2007 because it mocked Muslims. Here's the link to verify and see the other cartoon.

I think because of the violence behind the Muslim extremists, it would probably be a good idea not to taunt them.

Most Christians will do write ins when they don't agree. I don't think they will strap themselves down with a bomb to make their point - generally. lol

Is This Blasphemy - Washington Post?

Reverend Jones Secretary of United Pentecostal Church International Responds to Cartoon. See below the cartoon.

Talk about borderline blasphemy - this "cartoon" is the epitomy of it. If this had been written about an aspect of the Muslim religion the WashPost writer would have death threats against him. Below the pathetic joke is a letter written by Bro Jones from UPCI headquarters to the Washington Post. Pray for our nation and VOTE MCCAIN-PALIN IN NOVEMBER!

A Message from Jerry Jones:

Dear Sir:

I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the long-denied political bias of the editorial board of the Washington Post confirmed by the highly offensive cartoon by Pat Oliphant published on September 9th. I was shocked to discover the board also holds a religious prejudice as well. To single out those of us who are Pentecostal and revere as well as practice the Scriptural experience of speaking in tongues in such a calculatedly offensive way is disgusting. That it was published by a leading U. S. newspaper is beyond belief. Quite obviously the board's phobia of Governor Palin has caused it to lose its senses as well as its decency. To attack her on the basis of her political positions is certainly within your right, but to attack and ridicule her solely on the basis of her faith, a faith that is practiced by a significant number of Americans is indefensible.

A response by the millions of Pentecostals both in their future choice of reading material as well as at the polls can be expected from this unprovoked attack on a belief than spans many denominations of Christianity.

If such a deliberate disregard of the sincerely held beliefs of a significant segment of our population is fair game in the pursuit of a political agenda, how can the already tattered reputation of the traditional press in our country be rehabilitated? Your abrogation of your responsibility to respect and exhibit at least a minimum sensitivity toward other's beliefs relegates the fabled Washington Post to the sorry company of yellow journalism rags of the past.

I urge the editorial board to issue an immediate apology to the millions offended by this silly and disgusting cartoon.

Sincerely,

Jerry Jones
General Secretary
United Pentecostal Church International

Re: Is This Blasphemy - Washington Post?

This brother decided to preach!

To Whom It May Concern,

To be charitable, if I only viewed the left portion of the scurrilous cartoon by Pat Oliphant in your recent
publication depicting Sarah Palin speaking in tongues, with John McCain's response, I could assume Mr. Oliphant is merely grossly ignorant when it comes to biblical and Christian literacy. He not only offends 20 million "tongues-speaking" Americans with his illiteracy, but he also offends most of Christendom by default. The Catholic Church supposes Peter to be their first pope. Peter unabashedly spoke in tongues and ardently defended the experience in Acts chapter 2 of the Bible, no matter which version one prefers. So his depiction of Peter's response on the right side of the cartoon is inaccurate with the biblical record. Peter would have understood and approved the practice of tongues-speaking, which he engaged in himself, and encouraged in those under his influence [See Acts 8:14-17; Acts 10:45-48]. So not only classical
Pentecostals, but also Charismatic [including Catholics, Episcopalians, and remnants of many other mainline Protestant denominations] have been insulted by your unprincipled, petty journalistic choice to print this derisive insult.

Such blatant and appalling illiteracy is disappointing in Mr. Oliphant, but unacceptable by your editors.
Furthermore, his depiction of God, even in satirical terms, is disgustingly crass and irreverent, bordering on
blasphemous. How is it that your editors would choose NOT to run the cartoons concerning Mohammed, offensive to Muslims from the Denmark paper, yet choose to offend such a wide swath of Christianity with equally distasteful, disrespectful drivel posing as journalism? Your choices cannot but imply an intentional, insensitive bias against Christians that you would not choose to reflect against almost any other group. Your "political correctness" seems to extend only to groups that fit within your revealed parameters of bias. And by the way, to further assist in the remedial levels of biblical literacy to help reveal the extent of your offensive editing choices: Paul, the apostle, was also without biblical equivocation, a frequent speaker in tongues [see I Corinthians 14:18] who encouraged speaking in tongues in his converts [I Corinthians 14:5,39; Acts 19:6], and valued the process as spiritually beneficial in one's personal prayer life [I Corinthians 14:2,4]. He went so far as to instruct that the gift of tongues coupled with the interpretation thereof were two of nine special spiritual gifts given to edify the church [I Corinthians 12:7-11].

I believe there should not only be a printed apology extended to the Christians of America and elsewhere, but also a strong censure to Mr. Oliphant, and a stronger censure to those who were involved in the decision to print such scurrilous sarcasm.

May God grant you grace and mercy as there is only one offense deemed "unforgivable" in the Holy Bible.
This offense is described in the words of Jesus Christ according to the gospel of Mark, Chapter 3 verses 28-29: "I tell you the truth all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin." However, may the same grace be extended in your unfortunate ignorance of things biblical that was extended to the Apostle Paul himself, and may you become a speaker in tongues through the power of the Holy Spirit just as the Apostle Paul was after his enlightenment [I Timothy 1:12-14 -- "I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. Even though I was once a
blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus."].

An unabashed, nonintimidated, blessed, deeply grateful, Holy Spirit-filled speaker in tongues,

Marvin G. Walker
Pastor

Re: Carp's Dems playing with fire thread

I am equally repulsed by the cartoonist of the Post mocking this Pentecostal experience but the thread title ... (that has mysteriously disappeared) once again shows the inability of seemingly intelligent people to compartmentalize or assign guilt to where it belongs ...

it broadbrushes the entire Democratic party and those voting for Obama as playing with fire ... Oliphant is the culprit and the editors of the Post ...

Yet where is the indignant outrage for the sacrilegious ad by the McCain campaign that sought to use the Incarnation, the message of the Messiah and the 10 commandments ... to paint and mock Obama as THE ONE ... preying on the beliefs of evangelicals eschatological beliefs of an anti-christ...

Or the constant barrage on the Christian beliefs of a man who would be President who has proclaimed his faith in Jesus Christ ... by countless cartoons ... pundits and even posters here that insist he is a closet Muslim because of his name or the belief of some in his family.

When will there be consistency ...

We cringe when our beliefs are attack but participate and laud a campaign that has participated in using this same tactic ...

HYPOCRISY SQUARED!!!

The thread didn't magically disappear - it was deleted since it was a duplication of this thread.

This is an attack of blasphemous proportion by the campaign ... whose motto is

John McCain first
Country second

The difference being a news outlet published a cartoon ... while millions of campaign dollars were used by the McCain camp to air this insulting video that was given a free pass by many of the religious right.

We lose credibility if we talk with koolaid spattered all over our mouths.

Yes we can denigrate the incarnation and a patriarch in Moses but don't touch our identities.

Dan, I loved the ad. Only used Oshama's own words.
