Going back to the UPC

Hello all-
Well some if not most of you know that I had left the UPC church I went to, but my wife and daugther stayed. Well this has put a strain on us alittle and has hurt my relationship with her family. Well my daughter is almost 2 and I came to the decision of returning to the UPC for now and maybe forever. This will keep the consitancy in raising our child/children. As oppose to them choosing to go the charasmatic church with me and maybe getting confused on the teaching. I will definately raise my kids right. My wife and I see eye to eye on most if not all issues, but she just can not leave there. So back I go. What do you all think? I am curious to hear what you all have to say.

What can we say? It's your decision. I wish you the best.

My only question is - if you were unhappy enough to leave, what has changed? How long can you be happy if you go back?

Re: Going back to the UPC

Was your charismatic church oneness?
If you feel this is from the LORD, be ecouraged brother, I'll be praying for you. I'm still single, so I couldn't imagine my wife and I going to separate churches, but my sister and I go to different churches (she goes to the UPC and I go to the indep church) and it can get tough sometimes but the LORD has kept my sister (who is younger in the LORD than I am) strong through the whole ordeal.

GOD BLESS!
Bro. Alex

I believe God will reward and bless him greatly for this decision to do all he can to raise his family in the light of salvation.

Re: Going back to the UPC

I think in theory it can only benefit your child for her parents to go to the same church. I also agree that you need to be in accordance on how to raise her. It will not be helpful for you to go to the same church if you undercut or disagree with the church in front of her. I have seen many children permanently damaged by parents staying in a church that they disagree with. If you throw the ministry into doubt in front of your child, she will doubt every aspect of the church.

This isn't just a UPC/Non-UPC issue, I have a cousin who is the youth pastor of a non-denominational church, and the girl he married was the music minister of another non-denom. After they married they continued to go to the different churches because of their ministries in those churches, but once they had children they decided that it was not in the best interest of the kids to continue that way. So they made a choice and now attend just one of the churches as a family.

I've read all the comments, and JT, I think you are doing something very selfless here... I think you must be a good fellow!

I also would echo Dizzy's thoughts.

Re: Going back to the UPC

I guess I could have prefaced my first post by saying the charasmatic church I went to is oneness I guess. They baptize in Jesus name and the pastor is from the UPC of old.

Scotty hit the nail on the head for me. I was not too comfortable being there before cause of some issues, but I am fine with being there because Amy and Delaney(daughter) are the most important things to me and their living well and right is #1 for me. The toughest part is not following the standards for me. I am not convicted or convienced they are essential. But I am sure it will all work out.

Why would it be tough for you as a man?
